I just bought a 1992 c4 ,from a guy that started to fit a new opti and w pump,he got terminally ill and now I have put back together . It won't start , if I spray petrol in the intake it fires,I drained tank of old fuel and replaced. So this is as far as I got. I have no scanner or means of checking computer. It drove in garage 9 years ago fine. Any one tell me where to start? Cheers
I recently revive an 1989 which sat for 3-4 years, went through what was suggested from members. Nothing, the injectors were frozen from seating, I fabricated an harness to activate them individually while the fuel rail is pressurize, after I did that with the rail still pressurize with my fuel injector cleaner I designed. It fired up, then it stop again. Did another injector test, I found one that was bad. I disconnected it, it started. I guess if one injector is not working the entire system is shuts down. so you might want to try checking the injectors.
The harness is made of 20 gauge wire with two alligator clips and amomemtn switch at the negative wire, hook it up direstly to the batt. If you have an extra injector connector it's much easier instead of the alligator clips.
You can pressurize the rail and maintain pressure while you are checking the injector, do this by pinching the return line to prevent the fuel from returning to the tank or you can disconnet it and clamp in a plug. This way when you acitivate the injectors you can hear it click and send fuel through it for lubrication and will help open it.
These 2 codes are what I found c72 and h72. Is this the non start prob?
No
Straight from the link i gave you
"Example: H72 code.
This may have been caused from someone driving the car with the radio out for service. The code set and was not cleared after repairs were done. If the problem causing the code is fixed, the code must be cleared. "
if you can put your ear up anginst the fuel tank and the have someone turn the car to run. you should be able to here the fuel pump run. Also you should be able to see the fuel rail on the fuel rail there is a schrader valve used to test for fuel pressure, crank the car over then take a screw driver or something and depress the valve fuel should spray out. let us know what have

Check for spark off the coil. If you have it and have fuel pressure, this is what probably is wrong. You might have not aligned the opti shaft correctly so the timing would be off and the engine will not start.
Did you align the missing tooth correctly?
The opti should have hit the cover with a ting and lay flat. The bolts only hold it on. If you tightened the bolts and pulled the opti toward the engine, it's probably on there wrong.

Thanks to you guys for all your replys. I got it started in the end, trouble is I'm not sure how or why. I done the injector pulse check with noid light then pulled injectors out and tested but none sprayed fuel. Took out pump and checked all ok. Put back together and fired up all good. I think it may have been old fuel still in system after draining the tank. Starts first time now every time.
Thank goodness it wasn't the opti. Anything else is a lesser effort. Could have been a bad connection or anything. I would keep an eye on it for a while and don’t go driving without your cell phone.
