I'm looking to buy a cloth top for my 88 convertible. Is there any difference in the manufacturers? Who makes a good affordable quality top? Should I replace it myself or go to a shop? I would appreciate any help I can get!

I have an '89. Stock top (in white) was pin-point vinyl. Didn't want another vinyl so opted for a Haartz sail cloyh in black. Nobody makes the sail cloth in white. Again, opted to have it professionally installed because, unless you know what your doing, it's a real bear to put on. If you can find a shop who will allow you to buy your own, go on line, there are several Companies who either stock the exact fit or they can cut it all out. Would like to furnish you with the Company I bought from but just can't find the invoice at this time, but the cut was good. Make sure your padding is in good shape and be sure to buy the side cables. Got my cables from Ecklers. When the old top is taken off and if you have the original rag top chances are you will be needing the cables because there will be a lot of rust. I also purchased(on line) Sunbrella 303 Tonneau and Convertible top cleaner and the 303 Fabric Guard by Sunbrella. Really happy with both. Since the sail cloth is a form of canvas, the water either runs off or beads up with no leak through.
I see the retailers have jumped in here but I can assure you I didn't pay near that much for mine. I did happen mention the Sta_Fast name in the in my description, but the key is the Haartz name. Shop around the net and find an actual manufacturer and the deal will look better. If you want to go with the cloth as opposed to the pin point vinyl, be prepared to pay about $100.00 more. If you opted for a glass rear(which would include rear defroster) add another $200.00 or so, otherwise you will get the plastic rear.
