 One night I had a dream I was driving a Corvette (some type of C4). I've always liked them, but never really considered owning one until my dream. It ate away at me until I bought mine 3 weeks later. I even sold my beloved ricer to get it!!!
this is a neat post. an interesting one at that. i'm not sure what i'd do if i had the chance to do it over again. while not c4's...the ls1 and ls6's are extremely responsive to minimal mods! h-c cars are COMFORTABLY in the 11's with no compromise. there are also an equal amount of horror stories with column locks, warped rotors, funky gas gauges and the ever popular"CLUTCH REPLACEMENT". but not all of them.
i bought mine in 1996. i wanted an lt1..but couldn't afford it at the time. i think if i had to do it over again, i might have waited(if i had the patience) and gotten a blue '94 like original plans called for.
owning mine has certainly been an experience. like any other "MUSCLE" Car, it's like a high maintenance woman, it ALWAYS accepts the $.
I've loved the C-4 every since I drove my first one back in '85. I always loved Vettes (C3's), but the C4 was the one that delivered the performance and handling. I love my '85. I hope to get my hands on a '92 to '96 model eventually. Right now, its not in the budget, but I have something to look forward to! :D
C5 had just come out and the wife wouldn't justify spending over 20k on a used car.
Saw this one and we both fell in love with it. It was cherry and priced at 13k. Payed for it all in one fell swoop. Checked it out before hand and found that the car had been serviced at the local chevy dealership all of its life. the original owner ( i am #2) had never left the city I live in so i felt it was a safe thing.
Has run like a champ since. :D
I'm not a C4 owner, but I'm in the market, so I'll say why. :)
I love the C5s and the C3s, but the C4 seems to fit me best. I know my way around TPI real well, and I can get a C4 very affordably and not have to deal with a massive depreciation in the few years that I'd own it. The C5 is so expensive, and would depreciate so much that I can't really justify one yet. The C3s are great, but for a daily driver it's lacking in power, ride quality and reliability. Now I've just got to find a C4 :)
I traded in my 80 Corvette for my 87 because I'm a youngin'. More people say that when they hear the word "Corvette" they think of the C3. Not me though. I grew up watching the C4 evolve. I would sit in the car magazine section of the grocery store and just drool over the Motor Trends and Road & Tracks with the Corvettes on the the cover.
