Default driver side headlight.

hey guys hope all is well with you. I have a question today about my 1988 Corvette Convertible. I noticed last fall before putting the Vette away for the winter that the drivers side headlight was beginning to act up. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it would only go up halfway and then go down. I believe that the motor has to be changed because the gear that makes the headlight go up and down seems to be stripped. Now my question is....can I just buy the motor or do I need to buy the whole headlight assembly with the motor??? I have seen some for sale on e bay and are not too expensive. Also, how hard or complicated is it to do it myself?? How long does it take?? thank you. Joey.k

you can just buy the gears and install them your self not to bad of a job. I would highly reccomend that you do not buy the cheap motors that are out there. They are trouble esp for the 88 and up yrs. You will be money ahead if you by a good motor off the bat

Here's a video on whats involved to repair the motor.. Probably need new bushings, and a lot cheaper than a new motor..

Purchase the bushings and a NYLON gear. If they have never been replaced, it is time to replace both while you have it apart. You would rather have the nylon gear strip than use a metal gear and ruin the motor. Watch the video.
