I have a 1996 convertible and recently purchased a new leather shift boot and console. Question is does anybody know what "bolts" are used to attach the shift boot?

The boot is attached to the console plate with some unique "nuts" that push over the nylon stud and is a tension retained part and then the boot is attached to the nut with a threaded fastener. It will become obvious to you when you disassemble your car. The "nut" is called an "on-sert".
Here's an image of an "on-sert" and in the lower left you can see how they're used for assembly. None of the sizes in that link are correct. I sourced these quite some time ago for a fellow but NOT from this vendor. This was just a very good informational link:
If you've received your parts PM me the dimensions of the plastic stud of your replacement console part. I can maybe duplicate them again. You could try posting a "wanted o buy" in the parts section also. The image should help you. Most aren't familiar with the product.
The screw should be an M4.2X1.4X13 that holds the boot to the "on-sert".
Thanks very much for the quick reply - when I took the console apart the boot was attached to the cover with machine bolts - I have seen the on-sert before and now that you identified the part hopefully I can locate the correct size since the new cover didn't include the on-sets
Just an update - I was unable to locate any of the on-serts so I searched for a different resolution - what I did was use inserts from the hardware store that were intended for use in wood - I filed down the "threads" then used super-glue to help keep the inserts in place and used 6-32 machine screw with a flat washer to attach the shift boot - looked factory installed and is holding solid as a rock
