I got an 87' Vette with a 383 stroker with low miles and when i am driving down the road at 80 miles an hour it quits and then when its cool at night starts ok but when it dies on the highway wont start immediately have to wait for it to cool,and help is greatly appreciated maybe an distributor or the car computer after i let it sit starts ok but then dies when gets hot put a new fuwl pump no help,thanks,Pete

The very first thing to do is check the computer for any codes. You can do this using a paperclip and count the number of time the "check engine" light flashes. To start it will flash once and then twice. It will do this three times. This is a code "12" which tells you the computer is communicating correctly. Any code after that will also flash three times. So be ready with paper and pen to write them down. When all the codes have flashed three times it will flash code "12" again.
Sounds like the symptoms of an ignition module (inside the distributor) that is missing the thermal grease under it.
The ignition module gets VERY hot (especially at higher RPMs) and it needs the thermal grease to help keep it (relatively) cool. It has a fail-safe temperature shutoff that kicks in if it gets too hot.
As Mr. Marker posted, pulling the error codes would be a good idea. Here are some links:
