Just got my hatch vent from Eckler's and installed it. My question is are there any problems that it will cause in the long run, and is there anything I should watch out for? Thanks
I got mine about a week ago. The only thing I have noticed is that the first time I installed it it was nice and quiet, just a slight wind wistle (with the top on). The second time I put it on, the back window rattled worse than the car does without the top in! :mad but I still havent tried it with the top off, maybe today after going to the drag strip. :D :D
When you close your hatch, be very careful. A lot of people have broken the switch that turns the interior lights off. Close the hatch till it touches, than push down till it clicks. Don't slam it shut like you would a door or trunk, be gentle with it.
I'm very careful with this after seeing too many people break theirs and I still have broken two switches.

I noticed the exact same thing after having mine for about a week. What's up with the rattling?
Mr.Mojo thanks for the tip on closing the hatch. I don't slam anything on my car normally but I'll be especially careful with the hatch now that I know about the switch thing.
I close my hatch a lot easier than I normally would with it in. Also you may notice your hatch will rattle a bit more with it in especially with the top off. But there are no real bad things to worry about. I think it makes highway driving with the top off much more enjoyable with it in.
I just got the one from Mid-America that they call "quick release".
It works perfectly and has no rattle at all. (Its coated in rubber
where it needs it). I noticed a big reduction in wind buffeting
immediately. The only down side is price. It's worth 5 bucks and
they charge about 30. What else is new right ?
I noticed that Eckler's sell two types of Hatch Vents. One that installs witht the roof panels tool and one that does not. I was told by a buddy of mine not to purchase the one that installs with the roof tool because you always had to remove and replace it to oepn and close the hatch. Is this true? and which type are you guys talking about in this thread?
I just ordered the one that doesn't use the tool from Eckler's "Ventmaster Rear" part no. 30728, $39.99
I bought the one that uses the top tool because I figured it is harder for somebody to pop the hatch if you need a special tool to unscrew the bolts. No you do not need to do anything different while openning and closing the hatch except for what Mr. Mojo said about closing it more gentlly. I bought the Eckler's one and not the Ventmaster one because I am just paraniod of some A-hole F-ing with it when I am not around. :yesnod:
I thought there was a website where they sold a high-quality piece, ie better than Ecklers/MAD?
i'm about to buy one, i just want to know where to get it and whether to get one that you need a tool for or just slips on.
I bought an EZ Vent. I paid for it by Paypal ($20) and I had it delivered within three days. I love it. It installs without tools. I am glad I didn't buy the ones from Eckler's. http://www.corvettegadgetman.com/products.html

EZ Vent works great, no rattles and is only $20. Can't beat it.
I've noticed a couple of times where the adjustable piece that turns off the interior lights has "dropped off" the post while the back window was in the full open position. So far, it's just dropped down onto the plastic apron and not the paint, so once I pop the window, I make sure to waste no time in taking that piece off the post.
... -and- like Mr Mojo said... don't go slammin' anything down or you'll be replacing switches.
As far as rattles go, I haven't noticed any more rattles with the vent in or out.
i should have mine on tues i ordered from mid america the heavey duty one
I've got the Kevin McGrade EXTREME duty model. As far as the ones with the metal ones from MAD or Ecklers, just make sure you don't over tighten them. That's what I did and the cheap metal broke. :mad As everyone else said, just use caution when you're closing the hatch.
