OK, here's a pic of my new dash cap and left speaker grille. It's not cemented in place yet and won't be until I get the right grille from the supplier. Actually, I may attach the cap in place using industrial-strength Velcro instead of the glue they supplied me. Much easier to get it off in the event the cap cracks like the old one did.

I would have used the cap same as you if mine hadn't raised up in the process of cracking. Who knows how long it was like that ? The issue could only be resolved with a different dash pad. Yours looks really good so job well done.

Thanks. My new cap could easily crack, too, based upon what I've been told by others and its susceptibility to direct sunlight and heat. A new dash top (the whole enchilada) costs $500 from the suppliers, so $99 for just the cap sounded pretty good to me by comparison. If it does crack sometime in the future, attaching it with Velcro instead of Bondex cement should make it a lot easier to remove.

I should also mention that, in my restoration of this car, I have used industrial-strength Velcro in loads of places (door panels, dash faces, etc.) instead of screws or glue to re-attach stuff after I've had to pull it off, and it has never failed to hold those parts REALLY well, and still allow me to remove them again if I ever have to.

Funny you mention restoration. I have put 2 new door panels. I brought the top piece on the passenger side off eBay for $20. Reused my arm rest and saved almost $200. Both door panels cost me close to $800 delivered. The dash pad I found by doing a Google search and a guy in Pittsburgh sold it to me for $165 delivered. Replacing the ugly glove box with a flat piece from Ecklers was $50. New shifter console $113. Used radio bezel $20. Used halo bezel $50 and the hatch rear plastic piece I found used for $50. I've bought pieces that looked fine but had sun damage. They didn't fit perfect so I threw them away lesson learned. I have brand new leather seat covers and I am going to spend another $300 on new seat cushions. I will sell the gray vinal seat cushions for $100 or close to that. I have been patient and with the internet it's been possible. Down the road new carpet.

That's pretty much what I've been going through, too. Scrounging used parts wherever I can find serviceable ones and buying new ones where good looks counts: shift console plate, ash tray cover, "breadbox" faceplate (attached with Velcro of course), door window top plates (more Velcro) and seat covers. My beautiful wife helps me whenever I need small, slender fingers to fit something in place. It's getting there...!
