Heres another issue i have noticed about 'the wave'.
Unfortunately, a lot of people think there corvette is like a cadillac. Windows up, a/c blasting, targa in place, vert top up in the nicest of weather. After all, dont want to blow off the toupee or mess up the comb over.
i am highly visible in my corvette. Its loud. Supercharger screaming. A/c removed for weight reasons. Solid motor mounts. roll bar. Vert top always down as long as its above 65f and not raining.
Its quite possible some of the people thinking their corvette is a caddy, dont want to notice others. They are in their own bubble, texting, on bluetooth, etc.
Not all Corvette owners are Corvette enthusiasts. To some its just a extension of the mid life crisis they are experiencing. Others especially C7 owners it can be the newest thing. To us who love the car it is a brotherhood thing. When we respect those who are of the brotherhood we return the wave. Its a tradition thing and some just dont get it.
Yesterday was my first experience with the Wave. The weather was beautiful, I hadn't truly tested things since doing the u-joints and figured yesterday would be a good day to find out.
Just kind of a 'flip a coin' to see which direction to go kind of a day. That ended up being around a 250 mile trip, most of it back roads. During that drive, I saw a C4, 3 or 4 C5's and a couple of C6's. If it was a convertible or the top was off, it was a hand over the top of the windshield, if not it was through the windshield.
The only vehicle of consequence that didn't wave was from a Ferrari the met. Then again, maybe there was something else going on.
It was a great day and a great drive. Well worth it IMO!
It's alive in my neck of the woods. I've only owned my car for a year and driven it about 700 miles. I live at the 2nd largest lake in Oh. so there's a fair amount of vettes around on nice weekends, have never passed one that didn't wave no matter what Gen., its all good !
I'll wave back, but I've giving up on initiating the wave, unless it's a C4 or older. C5+ people just don't seem interested. Maybe they weren't Corvette people before their generation of car and don't know that our cars are Corvettes?
I did see my cars identical twin today. However, we going the same direction but he was in a turn lane, so I revved the engine as I went by, does that count as a wave?
I have had my 87 since new and back in the day it seemed like everyone waved. whenever I saw another Vette with a kid in the passenger seat they always got excited to make sure you seen them and caught your attention and waved and dad or mom would wave with a big smile. I don't seem to get those kind of reactions anymore. Now a days you can kinda tell who is a true Corvette person or just bought a Vette because it is a Vette. You know, the same kinda people that buy a Harley because it is a Harley and that's the thing to do. But hey, to each there own. I still wave.
I havent done it for years. Sorry if i offend you going down the road but i just got tired of doing it. Its even worse driving my jeep. Everyone in a jeep wants you to wave to them.
