The wave is still alive. I think it's more the new first time Vette owners aren't aware of it but they will quickly figure it out. I remember when I purchased my first new Vette in 1989 and took it home from the dealership. During the first week of driving, a few vettes passed me and waved and I'm like "I don't know you" lol. After about the 4th one, I figured out what was going on and started waving. I passed a C7 yesterday and the driver didn't wave, just had a perplexed look when I waved first.... He'll figure it out. :o)
I wave if you wave, and if your Vette is trashed like a C4 I saw on the freeway not long ago, you WILL NEVER get a wave from me.
I also do not wave at any Vette with excessive chrome, stripes, and accessories from Pep Boys.
Btw that's not my vette and I would wave at any vette it's respect but yeah I agree all the autozone decals and stick on air and the aftermarket flames is hideous
During that drive, I saw a C4, 3 or 4 C5's and a couple of C6's. If it was a convertible or the top was off, it was a hand over the top of the windshield, if not it was through the windshield.
My top is always down, so it is easier to be seen by waving over the top.
I think as a Vette owner it is our responsibility to tell anyone we find out has gotten a Corvette, new or old, about the Wave. Most of the people I talk to have never heard of it. They said they wondered why people waved at them.
I am happy to report that the wave is alive and well here in central Indiana.
My bride of 30 years and I took a cruise out US40 from Indy to Richmond yesterday and only came across 3 other 'vettes, but each time waves were exchanged...and they were all the "arm extended and hand out the top" kind. Of course, it was a top off weather kind of day!
To us, the wave adds one more level of fun to the cruise, and we'll continue to do our part to never let it die!
Took my 95 for my first ever drive / cruise on Sunday evening. (this was out in the country) Passed 1 C5 and he wasn't going to wave. I waved and he did at the last second before passing (he was going 10mph)
Some older fella in a 4x4 toyota PU waved HUGE at me! I'm pretty sure he was trying to save the wave. And one other guy on a riding mower did a double take and waved.
Naw.. it's not dead.

I always wave, i look for another vette coming towards to wave at. Some do, some don't, most do. I love the wave, makes me feel a part of something special...That's my 2 cents worth.
i purchased this 95 which is my second vette. i purchased it down in florida at wildwood dealership. and ive never had a problem with the wave...unless i was in the villages..some people there in newer vetts have there nose held high but other than that today at the car show waiting to get off the freeway i had about 20 vettes pass by me and they all waved..
so keep up the WAVE..
In the Villages all they wave at is golf carts-what with 30,000 or so of them registered down there!
I got the wave yesterday from a two tone 86 to 89 on Route 1 south. I blew my horn at him (I just fixed it on my 1994 on Monday!!). I will remember to wave. Lot's of times I wave or flip the head lights to get a blank stare or ignore. Usually get it from the new C5 or C6 owners.
That's like seeing your grandparents in public and not saying hello because their old.
You wouldn't be here if it wasn't for your grandparents. Same for the C4.
Just got back from a short ride in the Vette. I saw at least 6 other vettes and gave the wave to all of them with only one returning it. The others looked at me like I was crazy. So I ask you, is the wave a thing of the past?
Maybe it's my proximity to Bowling Green, but I get a wave 90% of the time.
It's not dead but on life support in NJ. No wave from 2 C7's (yellow one on 130 N). Didn't expect it either. Didn't bother with the second one. On the way in there was Bronze C6, possibly in the same development as mine.
I did wave and honked the horn at a 57 Chevy Bel Air on 130 S. He waved back.
Put in a good 12 hours of work on the '89 coupe this weekend at my friends garage. On the way to the garage I was 2/2 with the wave to other vette owners. Within the last two miles of getting to my buddies garage I received the second wave (both C5 owners) as well as flicked off a guy in a late 90's mustang. I hate mustangs....
The wave is alive and well in North Alabama across all generations. I will throw a wave even when I am in my Town Car - I get some puzzled looks back sometimes, usually followed by a grin and a wave. I have never waved at a Town Car while driving the Vette. THAT might be interesting!
Here in the Detroit area the wave is alive and well. The question becomes do you use the whole hand, four finger or the two finger wave. Decisions, decisions......
