hi all, i fitted two new horns and think i may have crossed a wire at some point as they were working. now when i press the horn nothing but i can hear a click under the passenger side dash maybe the relay. i imagine power is getting to it as it's making a click so the fuse must be ok but not sure which fuse to check any ideas please?
If the relay clicks (and assuming it's OK) the problem is in the horns or the wiring.
Check for 12 volts at the connector on the horn when the horn button is pressed. You also need a good ground for the horns. Usually that connection is made through the mounting bolt.

cheers for the update cliff. i'm going to take them out and start over. while i'm on guys my high brake light doesn't work. no power going to the wires when i put my foot on the break plus one bulb out. do all 4 bulbs need to be working for the connection to happen? any ideas where the wires go to from the light , connect / come out before i start dismantling
you need the gm manual before you go any further...they have them on ebay....then you can follow the trouble shooting guides & diagrams...makes it a lot easier....

The high mount brake light should work no matter how many bulbs are working (or not). A friend of mine had 3 out on his '89 and the one remaining bulb still worked.
I think it depends on the year. On my car there is a separate switch on the brake pedal for the high mount brake light. I vaguely remember that on later years the two brake light switches were combined into one switch.
The switch might be out of adjustment. You push down on the brake pedal, push the switch forward and then pull up on the brake pedal. It's self-adjusting.

Reason: Corrected switch adjustment procedure.

hi thanks just took a look and no signs of any switches. sham that would be a nice easy fix

You must not be looking very hard. The brake pedal has several switches on it. One is for the brake lights (obviously). There is a combination electrical and vacuum switch that is used to turn off the cruise control when you step on the brake.
Here's a pic of my brake pedal switches. The cruise control vacuum lines go into the top of the switch on the left, so it appears that is the cruise control switch. According to my FSM, the switch on the right is the brake light switch and the white wire goes to the brake lights and the light blue wire goes to the high mount brake light:

What do you mean when you say "they were working"?
Did your new horns work for a short time and then quit? If they never worked, do they have two terminals, or only one? If they have two terminals, one of them must be connected to a good ground.
Just because the relay clicks doesn't prove it's good. It could still have bad contacts, which is very likely if both of your original horns quit at the same time, and both of your new horns don't work either!

You need to take off the driver's side kick panel. Several 7mm screws and there's one zip clip at the firewall. I hated that one and replaced it with a washer and a nut.
I just remembered I have a picture of the kick panel (and the screws in question):
