Recycle your cats for $
I saw a post recently mentioning that you can get cash for your old catalytic converter at a recycling center.
I had 2 precats and 1 main cat laying around from my 91 L98. Took them to the local scrap yard today and they gave me $59 cash! I was just going to toss them in the trash.
I found it interesting that they scanned the license plate on my car, took a pic of my driver's license and then got an electronic thumb print too. They also asked which car the old cats came from and had me sign everything and give them my phone number.
That was more involved than when I got my wedding license!
I ended up with a printout that had a bar code on it. Took it over to a cash machine, scanned it and it dispensed greenbacks. Just like Bally's Casino in Vegas!

They are trying to prevent theft. They probably have you and your car on video also Big money in scrap metal.
I have sold my old cats when I replaced them. I got $50 each for the ones off the 95. Same thing.....lots of ID. Cats get stolen off many of the 4x4 trucks because the thief can get to them so easily.
LOL I had to look up where Lowell was. Grand rapids area, herd it's nice there. People stealing manhole covers, headstone plaques and siding off houses in Flint area. when I was working a job in Detroit the power went out and I was talking to a power worker and he told me all the stories of scrappers killing themselves trying to take power lines or such.
Back when I was young and gas was cheap me an a few friends use to drive around and offer to haul off cars from peoples yards for around 60-100 in scrap. Can't tell you how many CATS we tossed when we cut em off a car or had them on the cars we scrapped. Year before scrap prices blew up, I finally got rid of 6 parts cars for around $300 total and still kick myself. Local racer got all the muffler shops to sign a few year contract to collect their CATS before prices went up and is living like a king. Drives a C6 and has plenty of other toys.
I saw an ad for a place that would come to you and buy your old cats. The problem was that by the time they deducted for their gas and everything else they only paid $4 for a pre-cat.
Thieves actually use sawsalls and cut cats off of cars for money. They target dealerships and go after vehicles high off the ground such as trucks/suvs since they are easy to crawl under. Its been going on for a few years now. Cats have prescious metal in them so like you found out, theres money in them.
My local scrapyards offered me next to nothing for my 2000 coupe cats so I got 2 quotes directly from cat recyclers. I sold mine to RRcats.com in Rockaway, NJ. You send them pics via text, they send a quote. They pay PayPal or check. They quoted $74 each and paid me $74 each, no hassle or scamming. It cost me about $40 to ship USPS. They pay shipping if the value is $175.
