Default Water Pump

Coolant light comes on when driving in the country... ok at city speeds up to 60 km per hour but when up to 110 km the light will come on. If I put the brake on and slow down the coolant light goes off.

The local mechanic says it could be the water pump not working properly and to keep an eye on it... so what would be happening with a failing water pump?

There is plenty of coolant in the radiator and reserve bottle so that's not happening because the coolant is low as a whole.

Sounds like air in your cooing system.. You need to burp/purge the system to get it out..There are plenty of threads on this forum explaining how to burp the cooling systems on these cars...WW

Thanks for that... yes, I hear a bumbling sound as soon as I turn the motor off and that would indicate air in the cooling system... I will read how to burp it.

What's the year of the car? There are two basic methods to "burp" the cooling system based on L98 motors and LT1/LT4 motors.

Here's the short version on how to burp the system written by Agent86...

Open rad cap and start engine. Let it warm up till thermostat opens. Either have someone depress gas pedal or reach over and hold the throttle about 2000 rpm. The increased flow will lower level in rad. Add coolant till full, cap it and let off the gas. It may require this a couple of times to fully fill the coolant system.

You might also want to make sure the upper reservoir is not leaking or letting in air. Bad upper reservoir's in the C4 is a very common problem.
