Re: Does any have a source for key codes?? (champs_97)
Was in the same boat, called a locksmith. He had a machine/scanner made for GM VATS. There was a dial with 1-15 on it and a green light. Takes 4 minutes for in between scans, when green light is lit then you can try again. Sorry but its hit and miss. It cost me $160 (included 1 door key and one ign key). To make the key the locksmith called in the numbers on the ignition switch, got a code, punched it into his key cutting machine and it made the key automatically. That part was cool. Found my code on second try so I was happy. If you have AAA they might pay for the whole thing. I found out after I had paid.

Don, my contacts in the cylinder finaly crapped out and I just buypassed the vats. There are 15 different resistances used, so you can run down to Radio Shack and buy all 15 and try them one at a time until you come across the right one. (the resistors are five of the same for $1) This site has great info on vats. http://www.ontool.com/library/docume...b1_sbullet.htm
Re: Does any have a source for key codes?? (Ramrod92)
The 85 does not have vats, it's not a question of the chip but the cut of the key.
Sorry I wish I had a good idea for you but I just don't know. My 85 came with the key registration card but I guess you don't have that so it's going to have to be done a different way. Does it say on the build sheet?
Re: Does any have a source for key codes?? (thrills)
Oops, I quess the " the codes that far back " through me. You can pull the cylinder and take it to a locksmith. They should be able to cut a new key with that.
