I actually saw a guy who jacked up his car with his jack under the rocker panel, centered on the door!! It had even wrinkled the door panel when the rocker panel caved in!! He was still trying to figure out why he couldn't pull off his front tire!!

AH! Well, when consulting one of out LT5 gurus prior to me embarking on some serious porting, he said: "If you don't punch through somewhere at least once, you aren't trying hard enough!

Prior to beginning such a project, it is good to know or have someone that does know how to weld aluminum runners (i.e., very tight places) before starting. There is apparently quite an art to doing it right!

For instance, I have several TIG welds that were done on my heads, mostly, and they are simply a work of art! The choice of rod is critical, apparently, and in order to gain better angle to some of the welds, the guy removed the gas shroud from the (TIG) wand and flooded the entire runner with the gas, prior to welding. I don't know if he pre-heated the (heads) prior to welding, but the resulting weld was smooth as glass; like a wet puddle. Grinding to re-shape was minimal. I wish I could tell you more about the welding, but the guy that did the work specialized on aluminum (heads) and kept a lot of his secrets pretty close to the chest.
