Default Spare tire question

This is probably the dummest question ever asked on the forum, but how DO YOU GET THE SPACE SAVER SPARE TIRE back into the shelf??? When I go to tighten up the long screw it tightens up to the end but there is about 2 inches of space of space and you can move the carrier up and down. Who designed this stupid system. Its a 84 although that probably makes no difference.

Just because you haven't got yours to fit correctly yet, does not mean the system is "stupid".

Check a couple of these threads, and see if one of them helps you figure it out.
There are pictures in some of the posts.

not a stupid system at all. You have it adjusted to fit a full size tire.

Ok I got it. I was the dummy. The long screw had a flange on it and must be pushed up and locked. Then the spare will fit proper.

One of those rare times that you really do need to RTFM!
