Default infared temp reader,

they are on sale at Menards for 10 bucks. I don't need one today, but what the heck, bought one.

We have one we got to check tire temps on a racing GoKart. It's one of those little guns with the laser pointer. We used it to find a dead cyl on a friends car by measuring header temps. They come in handy.

People use them to check for a bad cat as well. Nice deal!

Got one in the tool bin. Bought it to discover which cylinder was intermittently cutting out; worked a lot better than trying to remove a sparkplug wire.

Nice tool to have!

I have a Harbor Freight infrared temp gun and I use it to check my autocross tire surface temps. I'm not sure how accurate it is in terms of the actual displayed value but it works for looking for variations across the tire surface.

It also works for a whole bunch of other things. The only problem I have seen with mine is that the 9v battery doesn't last very long.

Raytek does some very reliable and accurate with most of the product being available $55 - $90 depending on how hard a person shops. I've used them to monitor most anything that can be imagined. Electronics, plasma televisions in cabinets and of course many automotive tasks. An inexpensive one should likely convince the user to likely spend more for some quality!

I also use mine for diagnosing a dead cylinder. Quicker than pulling plugs.
