Default 89' convertible rear deck release.

Hello to all and happy New Year.
Have an '89 conv. and had a new top installed this past summer. First time today trying to put the top down and found that the left side releases when you push the button but the right side is sort of staying released and will not trigger the latch when you close the hatch. Put a screwdriver in the latch and it moves so I know it is not catching and locking on the rod.
Any ideas on what to look for or what test(s) i could try would be greatly appreciated.

Jim

Solenoid gets gummed up its most likely not the wiring. I wrote some threads on this in the past. Someone on the forum actually wrote a thread on taking it apart very gently and cleaning it up and relubricate. The solenoid has a spring that will fly out at you so be careful and careful with the plastic flange holding it together as they get brittle with age. I was lucky to find one on eBay brand new for my 95. I think they are hard to find. You may want to try to locate used parts from see4parts or vette2vette
I do not know if your year solenoid is the same as mine
Good luck

Since I thought that article was interesting and useful I bookmarked it for future reference:

This is the article for the late model Verts. Cliff posted the one for your year. This also is good to bookmark for later models

A little confused on this conv. latch release, Is it solenoid and relay released? And where exactly is the relay(if it has 1 or 2 and what do I have to dig out or take off to get to it.(location please) Thanks

I hope Cliff can answer this for your year Vette. On my 95 there are 2 of them a left and a right one. They are located under the rear carpet towards the back of it. On my 95 it was easy to get to. Try to follow the cable from the hatch release to the solenoid. The release hatch on the side that won't pop up is the problem that its not getting power on that side.
Good luck
