What part didn't you understand?

The part where the guy hacked up an 18K mile CE vette for a freaking hot rod. Especially when you can get an LSx motor out of any pickup for nothing and you can get the suspension out of a crappier vette.
There is a possibility that this CE is stolen or has a lost title.

Chopping up a 18k CE Corvette. But thanks for the typical internet forum response. I personally wouldn't do that to a car that has that kind of value. But to each their own.

So...
The seller should spend $$$ on an LSx motor, out of a pick-up with xxxxxx miles, and a crappy old 'Vette with crappy suspension.
Or, he could go the route he did. Known mileage on a true 'Vette motor, tranny, and suspension.

Seriously?
If I were building a hotrod, That is exactly what I would do.
I think it's more on the order of yanking the Mona Lisa out of the Louvre', ripping the painting out and hanging it in a frat house at UCLA, then selling the frame as a velvet Elvis yardsale special.
But that's just me. I don't make or race hotrods.
<sighs and rolls his eyes> And I have nothing against velvet Elvis paintings. For someone else.

Why not go buy a GM crate motor (LT1 $11k /LS7 $16k) and find a suitable vet suspension instead? Might even save you money in the long run. Hell book value from NADA in that area is low $20's high $30's for the mileage on the car. Don't know if NADA book means much to anyone anymore.
I guess if you don't get it, you don't get it. Not that its a matter of right and wrong, of course. But that CE didn't deserve to be gutted like a beater.

What we don't know is if the owner bought this car with a blown engine.
Or it was purchased at an auction, stolen or otherwise.
Might as well get used to seeing these stories.
Painful as they are, more C4's are disposed of every day....

Is it OK to restomod a C 1 or 2 with C4 gear?
Al
An 18K mile CE brings what $15k-$20k? You find a vette for around 5K, rebuild the suspension, get an LQ9 and rebuild it with a cam, and go from there. You make more power and make money off the deal.
I personally wouldn't hack up a low mile CE or ZR1 to restomod a C1 or 2, but I wouldn't care about a 70k mile base.
I looked at the map in the ad and realized that I know that location. I have been there to buy Corvette parts. It's Shawn Pilot's house. He has piles of junk Corvettes in his back yard.
I understand why they chose the C4 platform for the hot rod. Since most of the cars of our generation are not yet worth a lot of money, they are great donor cars. What I dont understand is this particular car is probly an example of the few that are actually worth more than the average base coupe. Damn shame. It must have been a salvage or no title car. Thats the only reason I could justify chopping it up but it aint my car.
I tend to think there's way more to this story of why such a low mileage CE is being parted out. It doesn't make much sense the way the seller is advertising it. I would definitely stay clear of it. As far as someone using it as a donor car for a hot rod? Yeah......I bet the parts were used for many hot rods. Probably out of this country. Anyone missing their 96?
