I don't need new seats, but the sport seat leather with foam gets pretty spendy. I am looking at about $1600 for initial layout, and expect to spend more once I get into it. I need a switch on the pax seat, things like that.
Doing the seats without putting in new carpet (unless your carpet has already been replaced on a 29 year old car) seems like something that shouldn't be done. New seats, to me, require new carpet. *shrug*
And yes, I'd do all the work myself, as I nearly always have on this car.

The seats are the first thing someone notices. You can get away with cleaning up the carpet really good then putting new seat covers in.
Next to seat covers, carpet is the next big eyesore.
25 years ago I had a 79 Z28. Paid $5000 for it then and it was in great shape. They were a dime a dozen back then. But try and find a clean one now for that price is really hard. I think when the C4 finally starts going up in value, it may be my Grand kids that will get the benefit. I've gone through many muscle cars in my younger years, 67 Camero, 79 Z28, 66 Mustang, and a 67 Mustang Convertible. My sons now are mad because I sold them before they were born as those cars are worth money now. I've been driving a Jeep Wrangler for the past 21 years that I bought new in 94. I'll never sell it. And now I'm buying a 94 C4 as a daily driver. I'll probably drive it till I die. Problem is, I'm already planning on an 80's C4 too just to wrench on so when I do go, both of my sons will have one.... (I got car issues) ;-)
It's still cheaper than buying a boat, no matter how much you put into your C4! LOL
You are so right !!!! Truer words were never spoken. If you think the "corvette tax" is bad, it's not, at least when compared to the "USCG approved", "marine grade" rape job
Will raise percentage of potential buyers for sure
Just do it right, a crappy upholstery job is glaringly obvious, instant no go for most Id bet.
If it were me and I was just going to sell it why bother just dump the car as is and move on
I'm sure it adds value, but it will definitely help sell the car if you decide to. In my mind, going back to stock is both less expensive with the kits available and more desirable. But that's the nice thing about the C4, they don't have enough value in most cases to get hurt either way, just enjoy it.
