Default 95 hi beam switch problem

On our 95 conv When I pull the lever i don't get the familiar click that is associated with going from lo to hi beam. I need an inspection and need to fix this problem. Any ideas on where to go from here.

One of three things I can think of:
1. Bad dimmer switch
2. Dimmer switch rod actuator fell out.
3. Dimmer switch rod out of adjustment.

When this happened to me, I found that my dimmer switch rod actuator fell out. It is not uncommon and is mainly the result of side-to-side movement of the steering wheel caused by people using the steering wheel as leverage to get in and out of the car. I was able to get it back in thanks to folks here:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-actuator.html

The most obvious sign of this condition is that the multifunction switch just flops around. To check, you can remove the cover just below the multifunction switch, being careful not to break the plastic tabs that hold it in. If the actuator came loose, it will probably drop to the floor. If it is the actuator, you can follow Hooked on Vette's suggestion and, with a little luck, you can get it back in.

If you feel the multifunction switch springing back into place, the dimmer switch is probably bad or out of adjustment. Removing the cover below the multifunction switch will also give you access to the top of the switch rod. You can follow it down the steering column to the plunger. Now actually seeing what is going on down there requires that you be somewhat of a contortionist. I'm not, so I had to remove my seat to get access down there. (When my rod actuator fell out, the rod disengaged from the dimmer switch plunger, so I had to get down there and put things back in place.)

One last thing, if it is the rod or the rod actuator, and you are able to get it back in, make sure to never use the steering wheel to help get in or out of the car. Also, refrain from tilting the steering wheel because this can also make things fall out.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Yeah the rod probably fell out this happened to me. The switch is somewhere really deep down under the dash and when the rod comes out of the switch then it doesn't work.
I didn't fix mine yet since I fugue the only way to take apart the whole steering column.

Good luck with fixing it.

If your rod fell off the switch, you don't have to pull the steering column to get it back in. If you are pretty flexible or if you remove your seat, you can follow the steering column down and see the steel rod and the dimmer switch. The switch can be removed and the rod placed back without much effort.

Yeah that's something I was trying to do. The problem is I took apart something at the wheel and I'm not completely sure I put it back together in the right way.
But thanks for the information I'll try crawling under the dash and try to put it together.

I'm afraid the rod might be bent so it won't help just putting it back into the switch.

Good luck. Btw..you may have removed the switch actuator. Did you by chance read through the post I linked to? That rod is pretty heavy gage and difficult to bend. The actuator allows you to tilt the wheel without putting any stress on the rod.
