Default 96 Speedometer Help

The speedometer is not working on my 1996. Can someone help me with locating the whereabouts of the source for the speedometer wires on the engine?

Thanks

The VSS has no connections on the "engine". Is this an A4 car or an M6?

I would first get someone with a scanner to see if there's any display on a scanner. You say "not working" - Do you mean no display or just quite simply so speed displayed? Does the odometer work? If you have C68 AC you can check the operation of the VSS on the AC control.

The VSS is on the left rear of the transmission rear extension. There will be two wires.

Here's the C68 diagnostics procedure from another thread:

The VSS signal goes to the PCM first and then to the dash.

If you have the C68 HVAC system then you can display the MPH on it, as mentioned by WVZR-1 (follow the link in his post).
