Default Quick engine pull question.....

I am pulling out the engine from my '84. Can anyone tell me what bolt sizes I will need for my engine stand? (The ones that bolt the stand to the block)
Also,
Any recommendations on where to hook the hoist chain? A picture would be nice.
Any words of wisdom?

Thanks!
Shawn

This is why I need to pull the engine. I need to tap out the crank to put the balancer back on. My puller broke off inside... Any ideas here?

that's a nasty one; and a new one. Very carefully center punch that puller remnant; start lightly with a small center punch and once you get a dimple located in the center, then use a larger punch, bigger hammer.

drill it; start off small, then drill larger. Hopefully the drill bit will go all the way through, then flood it with penetrating oil; let it sit then try, hope, pray, that an easy out will unscrew it.

as to the bolt size, pull an easy to get to bell housing to block bolt and use it to match up the OD and thread pitch.

..... Bellhousing bolts are 3/8ths x 16 threads ... the length you need will depend on the engine stand that you have ... easy enough to measure and add 3/4" for thread depth into the block ... good luck with extracting the balancer bolt ... I had one strip out the crank snout threads and wound up drilling and tapping the crank to 1/2" ... big block Chevy size ..........

The center punch/drill/easy out is one method that typically works many times....heat on the crank snout while working the easy out would help.

Another method and the one that *I* would choose in this situation is to weld a pile on the end of the broken bolt until it protrudes from the hole. Snap some vice grips on the weld pile, and thread the broke bolt out.

Which method to choose? Personal choice based on the circumstances. Sometimes I go the easy out way, some times I weld. Depends on what I "feel" has the greatest chance of success, w/the least damage, for each situation.

An "easy out" cleared it up for me!

Thanks for all the advice!

There is one Goldish wire that I am fairly sure got broken off the starter wire bundle. An advice on where that wire goes? Other than that, I had no breaks pulling or installing the engine!
