It would if the door was open. Do your inside courtesy light come on when you open the doors? If not then your door switches are bad and the system thinks the doors are still closed even though they are open. Also if you have a coup with a rear hatch release switch on the drivers door, it will not work if the door switch is bad because the system thinks the door is still closed and that turns off the switch.
The courtesy lights come on when the doors open and off when the door closes. In addition the rear hatch release on the door works fine. Other than making sure the switches move properly how else to I test them?
If the switches are working fine, which they sound like they are, that's half the battle. They are few out there and most are used. The issue may be in the aftermarket system that's installed. Not sure if or how they may have tied it into the factory system. Then somehow disconnected it so nothing is working. You may have to take a pencil and get back under there and write down what system is installed and do a search for an installation manual to figure out the wiring. Then reverse engineer it. It might seem like a headache but once you find out what aftermarket system is there and get a manual it's doable. And would be well worth it.
Unfortunately the box is halfway behind the dash so I'll have to pull it out carefully so as to not mess up any other wiring. Maybe I'll get out there again tonight and see if I can get a picture of it.
Got it. It is a MAS DLR4. Now that I can get to it I could even replace it with something like a Viper. I can see that the fuses on it aren't blown so I will probably need to track down a good ground and possibly a constant 12V.
Now that I think about it the speakers pop when the power to the car goes off and the door is opened. I wonder if there is a problem with the ground they used. Isn't there a thread on here showing where to get a good ground?
I use a magnet to find my grounds. I know the front speaker on the driver side bolts to the lower metal body frame. As for the stereo? Not sure where the ground is for that.
That might just be the key. Maybe they didn't get that speaker mount in solidly and so the ground is not always connecting. At least now I know how to get to the front speakers easily. That is definitely something for tomorrow. In any event I can also work on getting the horn to beep when the lock is engaged or disengaged while I'm working on this issue.
You can try clicking your remote and see if you feel any type of clicking on the aftermarket box. If yes then it's working. If not they might have broken the ground wire somewhere. That is if the aftermarket unit has any kind of relays in it that would click when unlocking the doors...
It is supposed to have relays built into the aftermarket box and it makes no sound and doesn't vibrate at all. Unfortunately the fuel pump went out today about 35 miles from town and it's at a mechanic's place until tomorrow to have that replaced. That blew my plans to get new tires today, but it will all work out.
The funny part was that the tow truck driver had the exact same problem with the remote keyless entry after the same installer did his sound system. He figured out that his relays had been blown, but the installer never found the issue after several attempts.
Tomorrow afternoon I start re-wiring the stereo. I discovered that they didn't bypass the Bose amps for the front speakers so I start with running new speaker wires for the front and connecting the ground by the driver front speaker mount as was described earlier in this thread.
Next will be running the constant power to the battery directly. Hopefully I won't need to do anything else on it. Assuming that doesn't fix the Keyless Remote I'll plan on replacing it in a couple of weeks.
I just ordered a new key fob for mine. The system seems to be working so hopefully I didn't waste my money. If all goes well I might order a second used one as a spare for my son....
If your factory alarm goes off you can turn it off by unlocking the drivers door with your key or turning the ignition too run with your key.
I also inspected my speakers. None of the boxes had Bose speakers in them and the amps were disconected. Put bigger speakers up front and found that I had a small 4 channel alpine amp. After adjusting the gain on front and rear, the system sounds much better.
First, you let your son drive your car???? I'm not even at the point I let my wife drive it yet. Then again I've had it less than 3 weeks.
Second, I can hardly hear my front speakers that's why I want to run new wire. I know the new speakers are good and strong so something has to be connected wrong.
Did you put in any sound deadening in the back under the carpet? The muffler seems really loud and there's no insulation under the carpet right now so I've been thinking that might be a good idea.
My sons my designated driver at times. LOL Wife hasn't driven it yet. I couldn't hear my front speakers either till I adjusted the amp correctly. The original Bose Amos were meant to be used with 2 ohm speakers. So if they were connected to 4 ohm aftermarket speakers they will not sound good at all. I also adjusted my fader +2 to the front of the car.
The speakers were in fact wired through the stock amplifier and are now wired directly. The keyless remote had two problems. First the antenna wire for it was coiled up under the dash causing a huge amount of interference and secondly the ground wire (which was connected behind the driver side front speaker) had not been reconnected after installing the speaker.
I ended up down in Santa Fe for most of the day and let the original installer look at it. When I walked in he told me that one of his techs had told him this morning that they mis-wired the speakers. He told me this before I even mentioned the speaker problem. When he went out to the car the remote was working when he was inside the car, but not outside. They quickly identified and fixed that problem. I told them if they didn't I expected them to install a new one at their expense.
The car just feels better now even though I know that's just my imagination. Rear tires are next, but they need to wait until I can stash some money away.
