Visited the Vette today at the repair garage. Might get her back tomorrow, they need tranny shop to do some adjusting and checking and then they will write the warranty. Anyway, the flowmasters are on but the tips are very close to the bottom of the bumper not touching it but very close. Do you think heat will be a problem as in melting or warping the lower part of the bumper? My buddy who owns the shop was concerned.
I checked under bumper and did find a support screw missing and another which can be adjusted to raise bumper plastic a little. If a problem I know I can remanufacture some stuff to lower the mufflers a little bit more. It always seems like you have to do your own mods to anything you buy anymore to make it work right.
Thanks for your opinion.
I have aftermarket tips on my Borla catback... They are chromed SS angled rolled tip and are about 1" max away from the bottom of the bumper. These have been on the car for over 12 months and driven around 10k miles. No signs of warping or anything.
I DID notice however after changing out from factory to the aftermarket Borla (even with original Borla tips) I get a LOT MORE soot on the back now... I think this is a combo of: the factory tips aimed down away from the car, plus my car is getting older and probably not running as clean as she used to.
The manual for my '90 says to maintain a 19mm space between the exhaust pipes and the bottom of the rear fascia.
When I installed my Flowmaster system a couple of years ago I spent just as much time aligning it and checking clearances as I did hanging it on the car.
Good luck,
