My father in law was in the middle of restoring a 1978 but hard times have come upon him. The cars engines has been completely pulled and rebuilt, they did a beautiful job. Very slightly modded, chrome accessories, painted block/intake just a beautiful engine to look at. The car has around 93000 on it. The interior is really good shape with a small rip in the passenger side. The underbody has been undercoated and the paint is original but had some chips other than that it still shines up. New brakes and suspension parts all the way around and tires are brand new. He spent hours on the wheels and they look absolutely brand new. Anyway here’s my question he wants to know roughly how much to ask for it and I don’t know the C3 market. I would imagine anything between 68 and 73 or a big block is where the monies at. Any rough guesses from my corvette friends, thanks.
I have owned my share of C3's and when it comes to value it's all about the bird cage. If there is any rust around the bird cage or the frame ahead of the rear wheels it will dramatically affect the value of the car. Assuming it is in good shape and it's NOT an L82 or code B2Z car a nice 78 is one step ahead of the early C4's when it comes to value.
If it's in nice shape and a 4 speed car it would bring around $8 - $9K, automatic about $6 or $7, if it's a B2Z or L82 car it adds another grand or so.
Might want to ask over in the C3 section of the Forum. Pretty hard to place a value on the car without seeing some pics and more of a detailed list of what was done and where in the restoration process it is now.
