Default Trailer Towing

Hi folks: Both my wife and I are reduced to walking only short distances, her because of Multiple Sclerosis, and myself because I am 82 years old. We have power wheelchairs that we have used at some events, but we carry them in a Chrysler T&C (Sorry, won't fit in a Vette) and so we have to unload them outside the event. We have acquired a small lightweight trailer with a ramp door with room for both our chairs, that we could probably get past the entrance.

What I am looking for is information from anyone who has towed a trailer with their Vette, such as weight, hitch info, mods made to the Vette such as spring & shock mods, etc.

We are hoping to make sume of this summer's events as a participant instead of a spectator.

TIA, Marty

I can't speak to your question but may have something for you to check out. I have seen pictures in Hot Rod Magazine of the PowerTour showing Vette's towing trailers. Seeing how they trail parts and materials to maintain themselves and their vehicles over multiple days and drag races, I suspect they carry a fair amount of weight. Hot Rod Magazine has an online website and I'm guessing you can find something there.

Hope that helps, Good Luck.

Thanks all for the responses. I already have a hitch, and a 1986 Cvt, and a 5x8' enclosed trailer. I was more interested in any modifications to springs, shocks, etc.

Rule of thumb: Tongue load on the trailer ball should be 10% of the loaded trailer weight.

With your small trailer & small load a Vette will handle 100# (SWAG) tongue weight without modification.

Suggest a road test as is, if you deem anything extra is required like sway control or more spring etc those items can be added as you see fit.

Last week I was passed by a bunch of "Lap Around America" race cars. (well, sorta race cars). One yellow Vette was towing a dinning room sized trailer heaped with spare tires and such. Loked like a normal set up from where I was sitting, but who knows. Best of luck to you both.

I just towed my across the country with a u haul auto transport...their web site has all the details and can determine if your vehicle can tow it.
It will give an idea of specific weights on the hitch.
I can say that I pulled it with a new f150 4x4 and it did put a load on the rear....headlights were pointing up a bit....if if wasn't such a hassle loading it, I was going to try to back it on to relieve weight on the hitch..it did tow fine with the engine on the front...except for gas milage
