Quick question: Cars older and newer usually have under side of the hood a blanket, or other heat insulating material which I am guessing also acts as vibration and sound insulating. My 89 appears to have had one of those chrome kits, long gone with only sticky patches left. Searching around that is all I see for under the hood. Was there something there from the factory, should there be, and if so where can they be found?

I've had a lot of different cars over the last 45 years and not one has had a blanket under the hood

Not sure what cars your buying or from where but every car/truck I have ever owned (and that is a lot), with the exception of my 96 Corvette and a 1978 Fiat spider, have all had hood insulation blankets. Even the muscle and pony cars of the 60's had them as standard fare.

Forgot about my Jeep wranglers. None of them have hood insulation blankets.
Used the wrong term-as most of you have surmised I meant the hood insulation. Just seemed odd to me that there was none. Nearly all of the cars I have had over the years had them, including all of my cars now and they are a pretty wide range of makes-Honda, Mini Cooper, Mercedes and only the Vett is without. I thought maybe because of the fiberglass, but oh well. I think I will do as suggested and just paint it back to original.
I think, Hod Rod Roy, the under-hood insulation blanket on your '84 was place there to absorb oil spatter.
Damn I like the yellow! No idea why I always wanted the yellow Vett. I don't even like the color yellow on cars! Alas, ended up with the midnight blue. Maybe the next one will be yellow....
My 89 doesn't have hood insulation nor does it appear to ever have.
A side question on repainting if I may. How does one remove the little under hood light wire looms to repaint without destroying them? It would sure be a pain to have to mask them off and wouldn't make for a good, quality job.
More likely to be useful for absorbing Mustang splatter!! I eat Mustangs for lunch..........
You are missing some 'stangs'. There is a stretch of road of about 55 miles between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay where 'stangs' are numerous. It would appear that many are rentals from SF airport, and taking the scenic route along the coast. When you feel really hungary, you might drive up from Mission Viejo, and enjoy a feast.

Seabright, Thanks for the tip on the 'stang's. I was hoping your disparaging comment about my '84 was in jest! Those kinds of comments make a guy tough!
