OK, so those of you who have taken anything apart on a C4 know that there is this green foam that is glued to the back of everything...guessing that it is for anti-vibration as well as some sound deadening. My mildew car just loves this stuff, so I am replacing all of it...I know, I know...there has got to be 6 tons of the stuff in the car...BUT, here is my question...Where can I buy it? I have looked a few places and cant find it...and I don't care what color it is, but would like something similar.
....... No foam on my '87 ... green or otherwise .........
HMMM, interesting...wonder why they went to foam? Found a local auto interior supplier, going to visit them in the morning and see what they have I can use to replace.
Where is it, door panels, seats, carpets? Maybe it was a 1 year thing. Any alien abductions or landings in your neighborhood lately? Anyway none in my 95 so far.
This was not done by a past owner, it is to "factory" looking. These shots are not the best, sun not up good yet... Here is a piece that will give you some perspective of size:
It is mainly glued to the backside of the plastic pieces, the two lower dash pieces for instance, they are covered (passenger side had a squatter):
You cant tell in this pic, but in some instances the foam is cut or perforated to fit into 90* turns or bends.
So if I am the only one with green foam in my car...great! Well as you can see I have to replace it, it is all mildew smelling if not covered. Even the headliner trim, roll bar cover, whatever it is called, that is covered on the inside. The dashpad is out now and they used this foam all over the place under there....
Go to JoAnn's fabric they should be able to fix you up. Get your headliner also. Spray it down with hydrogen perocide bad spell to kill off the mold test first for color change.
I believe that is called regular density foam, low density foam or upholstery foam. I also believe it was an update to the C4 in the MY 95. Pretty sure my 96 has it throughout as well.
It usually falls apart or disintegrates if handled at all when aged. It's sole purpose is for sound deadening. However, I have seen it used in vent ducts as a seam sealer as well. I have also seen the greenish color you have as well as dark brown, beige or tan and black used.
This car has turned me into a detective... so moving forward please refer to me as Sherlock. The rear hatch was broken, not sure when or how, but there were many pieces of glass hidden under the carpet in the rear. There were also several nut husks...which at first led me to believe it was under a tree...until I removed the passenger lower dash. Now I am pretty sure that my car was invaded by squatters of the rodent variety. Was not under water as much as it was full of water. I am not in the process of removing the entire dash to restore all the rusty pieces...should probably invest in a powder coating machine and a used oven.
Pull out your spare tire I had a squirrel that made a nest and had a need for speed. I found out one day when I went flying I put the vett in the hanger while we were gone with the doors closed. When we opened the door he was sitting there enjoying our pizza.

..... It is obvious that your car is VERY wet inside ... Flood car ? ... Don't buy any car being sold in Texas for about the next year .......
Texas is a BIG state only a few little spots got wet. We needed the rain bad it still did not fill my pond all the way. But at least I don't have to pick tick's off my catfish Anymore. When there are flood damaged cars the out of staters come to buy them to resell they can be anywhere always good to check.

You think? I have a "build" thread on here that describes a bit of the issues...it was left outside for a couple of years with crappy weatherstripping and the rear hatch was broken at one time, which wold obviously let in a few more drops... not a flood car, just an abused car. When I am done, it will be better than it was the day it rolled off the line.
