Problem with stock radio
So the radio in my 91 has never really worked since I bought the car back in 2010. When I first got the car I would get a handful of stations, but everything else was static. At the time, the antenna ribbon was broken so I figured that was the reason behind only a few stations working and the static. Eventually the few stations I got stopped working all together. Last summer I replaced the ribbon in the antenna and got it working properly. However, it didn't fix the problem with the radio. When I turned the radio on it would light up and the antenna would go up, but I wouldn't get any sound. Not even any static. Then when I took the car out of storage this spring, now nothing works. When I turn the radio on, the antenna doesn't go up and the radio doesn't light up or turn on.
I've done some searching and found some threads with similar problems. It seems like the problem is the receiver underneath the glovebox on the passenger side of the dash. Or is there something else that could be the problem? I'm trying to decide whether it's best to send the receiver out to get rebuilt/replaced or just upgrade the radio to something more modern.
Anyone else have this issue or a similar problem? I'm just looking for what my best options are.
Thanks!
