I have located a 93 Ruby Red. The price is reasonable, however it needs power brake booster, new paint job, new seat covers, headlights rebuilt and u-joints. 121500k. Price is 3500.00 I just wanted your opinion if it is worth it. I can do all of the work except for the paint job.

Paint jobs are a killer, a decent paint job is $4,000 to $5,000 in my area .....If you do leather replacement covers your talking $800.00 to $1,000.00 , but there are cheaper alternatives for the covers....It depends if the rest of the car is ok if its worth it or not...There are always things to replace that you don't see until later....WW
That is soooooo True, Thanks WW7, I was also considering this as a parts car for my 93 Vert. Do you think it is worth that for parts?
The only answer I can give is ( maybe)..Again it depends on how its been taken care of and if the motor and trans are in good shape...The problem with it being a parts car is it has the mileage of a car that is going to start needing a fair amount of parts itself..It wouldn't make sense to use almost worn out parts as a replacement on your car....Lets see what others have to say on the subject, I'm sure my opinion will be just one of many.......WW

does your 93 need a lot of parts? I would bank the $3500
No, it doesn't need any right now, but as these cars are getting older and parts are getting harder to find, i just thought that mabey it would be a good idea. I might be able to talk him down some. What would be a good price to offer for this car?
True parts are getting scarce. There are many places that sell used parts. Vette to vette is just one of them. I personally do not want a parts car in my yard or garage. If it's stored in the yard the weather can have an effect on the electronics. Your choice but try to get him down as low as possible stating it needs paint, interior and at that many miles could need engine overhauling tires etc that will cost thousands so maybe he will lower price good luck
doesn't sound to bad to me. As long as you can do most of the work yourself I would do it. Hell, I would love to have a newer C4 to restore. My car needs a paint job and I consider it nice. Auto or manual?
True Rubys get a decent price. You can buy this one and end up spending another 5 or 6 grand, or more, to get it decent. If you want it for a DD and don't really care how it looks as long as it hauls azz, buy it.
It is a True Ruby, and i don't intend it for a DD. However, it does need a lot of work to be presentable. The paint job would be the Big expense at around 5k. The seats would cost around 800. So, around 9300 to start and then what else i don't know. I think i'm trying to talk myself out of it...

Look at my seat post did mine leather only for $250
If you want a 93 ruby , then this is the way to go...(below)...This car looks to be solid and in good shape...It only has 76,000 miles and is very clean...If you buy the other ruby, you will probably have more then this ($10,900) in it once your finished, and you will still have a car that wasn't taken care of..I would say this car was well taken care of...With cars like this out there, at these prices , why would anyone even consider fixing up a trashed car..I hope this helps put things into perspective .....WW
Look on the forum they have a ruby with 42000 miles for $13k or best offer. Excellent cond. as mentioned above there is another ruby less expensive. It all depends what you want the car for
Given your description of the car as it sits, you could easily add another $5K to $7K to make it a decent driver. So now you would be up in the $9-11K range and there are a lot of very nice C4's out there in that price range.
But that may not necessarily include any work on the engine and drivetrain. If the car wasn't thrashed during it's lifetime, you could get another 50K to 100K miles out of it. But if it turns out the engine and trans need work, figure on adding a few thousand more.
After sleeping on it, I think WW is correct, it's sad to see a vette get into this shape. I think i am going to have to pass on this one. Thanks for everyone's input...........Charlie
Yeah, if it were a 20K-40K mileage car maybe the investment would be worth while but putting new paint and the rest on a car with those miles... I wouldn't do it.
ok, if you don't want it, where is it? Someone on here might want a project ruby. I don't, hell, my 86 needs ALL my attention, and money, lol. thinking about getting rid of mine now anyway, My hips have gotten in rough shape, so thinking about getting a C-5 . Don't want to, c-4s are great cars.
