I bought my 94 (zf6) 2 weeks ago and drove it 300 miles home with no problems. I notices a slight clicking noise in the rear end when I drove it the day after. I did some research and found that the stub axle nuts may have not been to the proper torque letting the splines "float". So, I put it up on a lift and went ahead and did brakes while I was there. I turned down the rotors and installed new pads. Everything went really smooth and while I was there I checked the torque on the rear stubs and they were to spec. I drove it easily Sunday to help wear in the brake pads. and occasionally my brake pedal would go from being smooth to depressing further and the ABS light coming on. I had never had this before. I assumed this is due to new pads still seating in. Today I took it for another drive and when I took off in first i heard the rearend make a slight click like it has before and my ASR light came on indicating it was on. There was no way I was going to spin tires. So my question is, Is there any known issues that cause the ABS to sporadically activate while normally braking and for the ASR to turn on when taking off when I wouldnt have spun tires (is this from the clicking?). My only guess now is that the splines in the rear wheel bearings are possibly worn out but I dont understand why that would occur. Also, my ASR turned on while slowly turning from a take off.
The most I know about this issue, is on initial start up, as soon as you start rolling forward for the first time, your ABS (which is just behind the driver seat, same as the passenger rear storage, but driver side) clicks for like 1-3 seconds, and sounds like a playing card in bicycle spokes. That is just the ABS initializing for that driving session until you turn off the car again. The only thing that sounds suspect is the light coming on, mine does not do that (94 coupe). As for the pedal depression, mine is much more stiff and responsive when I am accelerating hard. I haven't looked into it but I assume it's the fluid placement when G's are to the rear. My fluid is full but it is about that time for a flush.
I did alot more reading today and since the car does have 100k miles i'm willing to go ahead and replace the rear hubs. All of the u joints felt good when we had it on the lift so I knocked that out. Thanks for the opinions and anymore are always welcome!
