Default Question: Reduce noise?

I've been doing a major renovation on my 84 vette for the last year. I'm still sorting out the interior. While driving the car, it's a bit loud - exhaust drone resonating inside the back of the car. While I love the way the car sounds from outside, it's a bit noisy inside. Would I offend the Corvette gods if I sprayed the voids between the inner rear fenders and the cargo box with spray foam? I've eliminated the radio antenna and there's nothing from the factory to fill the voids on both sides.

Whatcha think?

Sound insulation in just the rear area may help a little but probably not much. Has the exhaust been modified? That's where I would look first.

I've already added some. The exhaust is what was on it when I bought the car in 2008. The car has 80,000 on the clock. Since I'm just now beginning to drive it again after 18 months, and I've been driving a Kia in the interim, I'm probably noticing it more. The drone is really loud from 1200 rpm to about 1800 rpm, then it's gone. I thought spray foam in the open cavities might reduce the SMC vibration in the cargo space.

Most of the available aftermarket exhaust systems for C4 Corvettes produce really bad resonance at low RPMs. Odds are, your car has such a system on it. Adding an X-pipe might help a bit, if there isn't already one on there. To truly kill the drone, you'll probably need to replace the cat-back exhaust. The factory setup will not drone. Neither will the Corsa system.

Live well,
