I am looking to have one of my cars painted. The Florida sum has just faded the heck out of it.the body has no cracks, no breaks, and no major issues other than some deep scratches.
What is a normal cost for a paint job? Not an amazing paint job that is flawless but a nice paint job. No show worthy, just driver quality. By show worthy I don't mean factory paint either. GM loves to orange peel the crap out of everything. Lol
I was thinking a few thousand but am unsure of what is acceptable.
95% of paint work is prep and post wet sanding, so the cost is going to come down to what shop you find, how much they charge, how much you are willing to pay for however much time they spend on it.......
paint jobs can be anything from a $400 Earl Shive single stage no prep job to a 10-15k perfect job.
just a guess, but I'd say $3500 for street quality paint. by no means show quality, but decent for a DD. I personally haven't done any painting for some 24 years, so I could be out in left field on this one.
I had my 85 repainted about 10 years ago. not show quality, but a good, standard, body shop repaint. since my 85 is two-tone, I had the gray repainted one year - paid somewhere around $950, and the following year, the silver, and, I'm thinking I paid $1100-$1200. the two year/two-tone thing worked out great for me, since I didn't have a massive cash payout all at once. after 10 years, still looks fairly decent.
I was quoted by a local shop $1200.00 for color and clear, with me doing all the prep work. That will include a GS stripe as well. I've seen a good amount of his work and I think that price is well worth it.
What color? Red's are more expensive. Was looking at an '03 Anniversary red/maroon car. Respray of front bumper cover, lower hood and fenders and blending into rest of car was going to be $2500-$3000.
Had my '67 Camaro, Marina Blue, done about 7 years ago. Would say it is very very near Barrett Jackson quality. $9500
Like was said its all in the amount and quality of prep (read $) how much do want to spend on prep. Spraying the paint is the easy part.
Just my wild a** guess, but to get a repaint you would be happy with better plan on at least $5000.

I stumbled upon a guy here in Michigan several years ago to repaint a C3 with cracked lacquer paint that needed to be sanded off. He had a shop on his property and did work for used car lots.
You might ask some of the mom and pop car lot owners who they use. The price I paid is no longer comparable since it was so long ago. I saved a bundle and was able to sell the car the next year at a Mecum auction.
Yes! Mom and pop shops are where its at. I had a few cars painted and hired the guys who worked at a shop to do it after hours. Pretty much no tax and they pocketed the cash so it was a win win. Lol

Bright Red 92 coupe semi daily driver...retiree...no shows....badly needed paint and targa top (cracked)
found top in junk yard for $300, badly scratched...took to local MAACO and had it painted for $150 as test....told owner MAACO had mixed /bad reviews on Corvette forum but had been referred to him by former owner of high end auto paint company who had quoted me $5000 .
Result.......came out VERY nice in wife's opinion....
had rest of car painted 2 coats plus clear about $1500........Am very happy 3 months later.....will let you know in 3 years if I or the car are still mobile....
This isn't going to be a show car. It's a car I can drive to the track to run the hell out of it.
I am not a waxer and would rather drive my car than wash it.
A $2,500 paintjob is fine with me. Why it is more is beyond me. I was quoted $2,200 when I needed to get my 94 painted and that was a very reputable shop. I just don't get why people think $3,500 is a good price to start on a car the size and of a Corvette. It's a small car and the panels come off pretty easily.
It's not like it has rust that needs filled, dents pulled, or any other filler added for dings or breaks.

I had mine repainted original color. Body shop sanded off old paint and resprayed then clearcoated for $4000. Looks better than new. I had my 77 soda blasted then resprayed with Sikkens urethane. That was show quality. I think it was about the same price but that was in 1992.
I was quoted $3800 for a paint job using PPG paints and $2500 for some other brand at another shop, so the paint has some bearing on the price. I priced some non PPG and it was around $750 for everything minus masking/sanding supplies.
I was also told the rubber and aluminum parts need special treatment.
