Had a 95 great car, black was hard to keep clean and hot in my florida sun.
Never had opti problem.
Thinking I want a vert next time.
Found a beautiful turquoise 91 6 speed with the L 98.
For what I read only will know the difference at high rpm with between the lt1 and the L 98.
Any real advantage of the lt1 over the L 98 besides a few more horses
Motor wise no. In fact the LT1 is a step back. Not knocking people who have them and like them, not saying they can't be made in to 500hp 383's etc.
Stock L98 is not much different at a track compared to LT1. not much support for the LT1. TONS of support for L98. if you like the newer body style get '91 if not get '90 unless you like the old dash.
88-91 car wise are similar except interior. you can put exhaust on an L98 and make it compete with a LT1.
You can go completely wild with an L98 because it's a gen1 sbc made for many decades, the 90's LT1 was made for like 6-7 years IIRC that includes other cars.
Lots of opinions on this, most just sticking up for what they have. Facts show Gen sbc is the ticket if you care, if not LT1's are just fine for a driver with a little extra care taken or an openness for opti replacement which I think a version 2 cleaned up that problem anyways.

Maybe a better question would also include the advancements of the chassis and "creature features", in addition to L98/LT1 comparisons - depending on your driving requirements, of course.
Having experienced both "vintages" from 90 to 95, powered by L98, LT1, and LT5s, they ALL have their pros and cons, so it depends a lot on how the car is to be driven...seriously!!
However, if I had to choose the "best" car for simple cruising beit around town or highway trips, I'd say it was my 95 LT1/M6 coupe. GM brought over to Corvette a production manager from the Cadillac division to address some of those nagging C4 customer complaints that were never fully addressed until the last 2-3 years of production.
Performance...is in the eye or the beholder (or perhaps better the seat of the pants of the beholder!). Probably the best way to answer that is to drive and compare, and see what puts a permagrin on your particular face!

Well my 95 drove good fast off the line because it had the optional lower rear end.
It was an auto.
With the targa top off it seams the car flexed a bit and I read the vert is more stable.
I owned a L98 trans am GTA, I liked how it drove around town quite alot. Since that car ive owned 3 lt1's and I prefer the Lt1 stock for stock when it comes to anything over 4000rpm, and that extra 1800 rpms can be alot of fun when you do open it up. The l98 felt like it could rip up the pavement from a stop light though. If I were considering a L98 it would have to be a 90 or 91 though.
My 95 6 speed with 82k was 8000$ at a stealership, coupe though not convertible.
