Default Tune Up

Hi,
I took my 94 C4 in for state (TX) inspection, the car failed The test was not done at a mechanics shop but a lube & oil place. The tech advised me I might consider changing the plugs and wires.
I called a local shop they said they could do the job for $530 bucks!
I haven't really had time to look into it yet, intend to do so this weekend. Any advice on plugs, wires and anything else I should do to tune up the engine myself? An idea of difficulty and time would also be appreciated.
Thanks
Happy New Year

Considering the difficulty with changing the wires, that dosent seem to be such a bad price.

I would use ac delco wires, and platinum plugs. Plan on it taking 8 hours if your not a professional.

Funny you should mention this. I was just watching a YouTube video showing how to change plugs/wires on a C4. It really didn't look all that hard (looked like some teenager doing the work). Before I'd pay someone a weeks worth of my wages for a job that should only take a few hours tops, I'd give it a go myself.

plan on all day and hope for better. the back pass side plug is the hardest get a ratchet that you can twist the handle to work it. walmart has a stanly for 20 bucks. loosen the power steering pump and move it forward to get in the hell hole. do one wire at a time and pay attention to the looms. use antisieze on the plugs. all plug wires click twice. and bit of dielectric grease in each boot.
if the 02's are old replace at least the front two.

Here are pics of the wiring on an LT4 engine to give you some perspective. Driver's side is easy. Passenger's side is more of a pain. Buy quality wires as you only want to do this once and by all means do a Google search as mentioned above. There are some good tips there on how to go about this job. You can do this and save yourself some major Rubles.
