I'm rolling the idea around of getting my 85's windows professionally tinted this spring. Nothing too dark. Does anyone have any preference in brands or can you tell me what not to do? I only want a brand that will be very clear and not fade or separate from the rear window defroster grid. I'm very undecided as I don't want to ruin my car or make a bad decision. Thanks for any suggestions.
Check the laws of your state, and any states you may frequent. I got nailed driving through Iowa a few years ago, about $160 and no, they didn't let/make me take it off. Remember, it will also make it harder to see out of at night....if you are getting older.
I had a dark tint on my Avalanche. During the day it was ok, but in poor weather or at night it was dicey in parking lots or in town, at least for these old eyes.
I have both of mine tinted, only way to go for me. No issues with defroster. Lots of info on web, or call and talk to local shops, they will give you the +/- of each type. They will probably offer 3 types, dyed, metalized, and ceramic. Most reputable shops will only do a legal tint and lighter, and give a warranty.
I've to date always tinted my cars, some darker than others. I have 20% on the sides and 5% on the rear currently. I've had tint on my Vettes since 2001, no issues to report. It comes in handy when trucks pull up behind me at lights.
If I removed it for any reason, I would try 35% on the sides and 20% on the back.
Select your state. And start here> http://tintlaws.com
30% is great. Visual clarity is superior. Less then a typical pair of sunglasses OR prescription transitions. Un-fortunately Not compliant in 15 states
GO figure. You can wear sunglasses that are roughly in the 35-40% range.

the problem with the defrosters is when it is removed. call a few places and ask them if they will guarantee the defrosters will not be damaged when it is removed.

So in my case, it would be the next owners problem, not mine
leave it off it can ruin your defroster and a pita to get off. harder to see and clean.
And unlike glass, it gets scratched. And it makes officer neck vein upset because he thinks you're hiding something.
One of the great features of the C4 is the panoramic visibility. When the top is out of the coupe, it seems like a convertible without all the buffeting.
No matter how professionally it's done, how many of those potential buyers will not look twice at a tinted 'vette. (My hand is raised.)
You would be a small party. From my view its one less thing to do, Every ride I have in AZ is tinted. Its a necessity to avoid the easy bake oven scenario when the temp hits 122 or less. Your mileage may vary. GC

Party is right.
You might be right in AZ. We have something called shade here in SC. But it's a moist heat. Has anyone done a poll?
