Opinions on tires - for 1996 wheels.
I am looking for a new set of tires soon, for a set of 1996 wheels.
17x8.5 front / 17x9.5 rear.
255/45/17 / 285/40/17
I am looking for good quality, decent handling tires. Wet traction is not a major concern as I am in Phoenix Arizona. I do occasionally autocross, but not nearly as much as I street / interstate drive.
Something that has decent tread life, not noisy like the Badyears are, and won't put a giant hole in the wallet.
I have heard that Kuhmo's are good, so if you have some of those let me know your opinions.
Thanks much !!

Im currently using GSC's on mine but have been researching and talking to people about it and think Ill go with Kumho Ecstas when I have to replace them. 275-40-17's at about $110 each at the Tire Rack. How can you beat that?

I am running the Kumhos too. I replaced the P285s with the P275s because the Kumho doesn't come in P285 but when I put the tires side by side I couldn't see any difference in size. :yesnod: These tires are as quiet as any tire I have run on my Vette and seems to have as much dry traction too. They have lots more wet traction than most and almost as much as the Firestone SZ50s, which is a plus here in Louisiana. I am gonna use them again when these wear out for sure because I hate spending $200 + on a tire that is only gonna last me 20,000 miles and on a LT4 you are only gonna get that much on the rears for sure.

TIRES
My Y2Ks came on Kumo(I can never remember if it's Kuhmo or Kumho??? ecsta supras. 265 35 18 f 275 35 18. I'm going 275 all around soon(and re-painting the wheels inside and out black) These are excellent tires wet or dry. I had the bridgestone potenza re 730's previously and they we're very good as well.

I have heard good things about Kumho's and they seem like a good value. I am running BF Goodrich G-Force KDW and love them. Much quieter than Goodyears , nice ride and good handling. I think they were around $160 - $170. Good Luck, Guy

I am a BFG fan myself. I ran them on my 90 Coupe, and couldn't say enough good things about them. I will be replacing the tires that came on my LT4 with them when the time comes.

Bridgestone potenza RE730's. Great tires, not noisy, excellent handling, good price. I've even pulled 1.82 60' on them when I haven't changed the wheels. :D

My 96 vert had Sumitomo's on it when I bought it. I think their ok but would like any feedback as I have nothing to compare them to.
Anybody out there got an opinion

I would suggest the BFG KDW or KDWS.. the KDWS is essentially the same with a few more sipes in the blocks and less expensive.. about $140 ea.... a very nice quiet and sticky tire.
