Default Front Spring

Hi All
I'm getting ready to swap out my base 85 front spring for a Z51 spring (Thanks Bob). Does it matter what side of the car it gets removed from ?
Thanks

I can't see why it would matter.

I don't think it does. It did not matter on 88'.

Best of luck with it.

It didn't matter on my '92.

It was kind of a pain in the *** though.

No. Just remember to put weight on the front tires before tightening the saddle clamp bolts.

There is a substantial arc in the spring when relaxed.
If you attempt to tighten the saddle clamp bolts without putting a load on the spring ends there is a good chance of stripping the bolt threads.
GM actually has a tool to load (flatten) the spring for this purpose.
Without the tool, you start the bolts and put weight on the front suspension to flatten the spring.

Hope this helps

Since mine is an 85 I have steel spring clamps and I'm wanting to cut most of the pad rubber off to lower the car. They make an aluminum clamp that can be cut to fit the thinner rubber but has anyone tried shimming the original steel clamps with flat stock to keep them tight?

I cut and rewelded mine. I do have a set late C4 clamps made from die cast Al.
All you need to do is cut off the legs to any length you want.
PM me $60+FS (add shipping for any price under the quoted)

Hey JR
I like the stance of your car. Did you cut most of the rubber off the pads and the outer pads that sit on the a arms ?

Read the instructions on how to remove, and install the monospring.

It HAS TO BE AT RIDE HIDE for it to be torqued to specs.

Only removed the mount rubbers. That front spring always sat lower than most. Also used a spacer to fit the tire/wheel "flush". That made little difference with driveability.
