Default '88 Rear Hatch Switch Position

I installed a correctly working normally closed switch and that's OK but now I have a different situation. The "striker" that's supposed to push down on the switch when the hatch is closed isn't even near to closing it. I'm thinking the the special air vent device (VentMaster) that I used a number of times bent the actual metal where the switch is mounted. I noticed that the striker extension was adjusted so that it was much longer relative to the latch than just the stock latch and striker.

So is this just bent forward and I need to straighten it out? Or do I possibly have an entirely wrong assembly?

Compared it with my own as best I could without removing the trim. Looks bent or misaligned. I cannot envision a scenario where that position would ever be correct.

Default 1988 Hatch Switch Problem Resolved

Yes. It took some bending but as the attached shows the striker now pushed squarely on the switch (and the panel light goes on and off as it should). I can only think that the VentMaster must have been adjusted too long so someone pushed like heck and bent the bracket for the switch. Two problems solved already today. Problem is there are only 4 weeks before the NCRS Florida Chapter meet and I still need 2B1 headlights.

I have seen your posts on the NCRS forum about your upcoming 35th Anniversary's Flight Judging. I wish you luck.

I am starting preliminary preparations for my '86 coupe. The other night I bought four Eagle VR50s with date codes within 12 weeks of my car's build date, from a guy who lives 25 miles away. $100 for the set, with plenty of tread. I am getting psyched!

Here's a final picture - the switch position looks good. And of course it works. Now I need to get rid of the extra pair of gas struts that I have for the hatch since they are of no use to me.
