Go Brickies!!!

My family had a place in Crown Point/Merrillville on 101st. We use to go to Wells street beach and West Beach in the summer. Someone I work with lives in Hobart and makes the trek to the North side of Chicago for work.

The fastest I ever drove the Corvette was on I65 between US30 and I80 when it was only two lanes now it is really nice!!! My biggest speeding ticket was in Portage coming back from the Tire Rack.

Speaking of the good old days I remember looking at the '90 vettes when they were new but ended up getting a '90 Reatta since I worked for Buick back then. Seems like if I am remembering correctly the Reatta coupe MSRP'd for around $32K -got a silver one with the maroon leather interior.

I did see your thread and a very nice car and I am going to say it again get out and drive that beautiful car. I should talk I just got mine on the road on Cinco de Mopar, May 5.

When I bought mine it had a MSRP of $39,xxx from what I recall I meant to look at the window sticker, I always remember when I am at work.

Wow 39K in 1990-must be very well equipped. I forgot that the vettes were in that price range back in '90 but then the ZR1 added another 26K or so to the price tag in 1990-wow talk about sticker shock-cannot imagine to many 26 year olds buying a ZR1-come to think of it I was 26 in 1990-man that seems like a long time ago-LOL.

I had pretty much every option with the exception of TPMS or whatever they called it back then and ZR-1 which was an option back then. I was 26 at the time so I am the same age as you and I lived at home with my parents so I saved quite a bit because of that.
As soon as one of my neighbors, who was 23 at the time seen the car he bought one. I think he still owns his to this day too. His is an automatic and he drove his all the time and racked up the miles in the beginning now he does not drive it and I don’t think his runs right now I will find out Thursday. I am driving the wheels off mine now.

As I said, we're doing Yellowstone. First night in Twin Falls, ID, then Jackson Hole, WY and then Lake Yellowstone and on to Mammoth Hot Springs and off to Southern, Oregon to see the Steens Mountains before heading home.

No worries, we leave next Saturday and are looking forward to it. Yesterday I took my wife's friend and an 8 year old neighbor with my wife in my 55 ****** with no top and windshield to a Crystal mine about 8 miles from my home. This is looking South towards Lake Tahoe from the mine at about 7000'.

My wife's friend Cathy is in her 60's and lost her husband a few years back had never been in an open top Jeep. She was thrilled!

We have been working on our cars my 1990 and my friends 1987. So far we changed air filters on both car. The dealer wanted $55 we did it for $20 so we went to Chili's and spent the $35 there instead. Wiper blades on his car today wow was that easy. Today we plan to change serpentine belts on both cars. I found a video on YouTube. It was not so good, it was hard to see because of lighting and a bit shaky. Could somebody link me to a video showing how to change the belt? The dealership wanted $215 with belt, Firestone wanted $35 labor using the belt we provided.

Thanks

We did not change the serpentine belt yesterday. After watching the video again and searching we could not find the correct wrench. Before going to Sears which is not nearby, I want to double check and make sure, is it 16mm?

Thanks

Cool! Great that you are the original owner and I liked the video you made. Did you ever get the serpentine belts changed? I did mine on my '92 and it wasn't too bad. I don't remember what size wrench I used.

I did get the serpentine belt changed. On the 1990 it was a 15mm wrench not 16mm like in the video, I think his was newer and that’s why it was different. We were not able to change the serpentine belt and ended up going to Firestone and it took their guy about 5 minutes to change it. One piece on advice for those of you changing it yourself, go to Sears or someplace spend about $35 and get the serpentine tool and use that, it will make it much easier

From this thread I think it was 3 of us that are original owners and a former neighbor still has his 1990 from what I was told so at least 4 total original C4 still out here

I am glad you liked the video. If you want me to make a video or take some pictures of your car let me know. Now we just need a title for the video…”Driving the 1992 around the suburbs or Chicago in…” maybe that will work

When I changed the belt on my '92 it wasn't too bad except an extra pair of hands would have made it easier. The serpentine belt tool sure would have made it easier. A couple of the pulleys are close together making routing the belt harder.

Perhaps this coming Spring you could make me a video similar to what you have. Thanks!

We had good weather in Chicagoland yesterday so I drove the Corvette all day.

Jim we can do something in the spring. Think about what you want to feature and how you want it to look and we can see how close to your vision we can get. I spent about two hours at the Downers Grove Library in their media lab learning how to use their editing program yesterday

Thanks Mike I try to stay on top of everything and the car does run well

I am really impressed ! You own this car for 26 years and got it new...

It seems in perfect shape. I have a 1990 as well but it doesn't have the nice options yours has and unfortunately, it is not in perfect condition.

Mine has about 137000 miles and had been driven in USA, then in Germany before it ended up in France in 2004. It didn't received the attention it deserves so i'm trying to get it back in good shape for 6 years now.

I hope i will keep it for decades...

seb.a Thanks
Actually I am very impressed you have that car in France. What color is your interior? I can’t tell from your photo.

If you are looking at the video the interior looks much better than it is right now. I should clean it up and I am sure it would look good. It has been expensive to keep up with everything and I only have about 36,202 miles on the car right now. I did get all the options knowing I would keep the car for a while but never imagined I would keep it this long. It is still in great condition.

The history of your car is cool. Do you have the window sticker? If not there is a thread somewhere here in the C4 section that shows you how to generate one. I used it and it did match the window sticker I got with the car when new. I searched for it before I sent this but could not find it so hopefully someone reading this can post the link in this thread.
