Default Vats fixed

Had the dreaded VATS issue with my 1988 C4. I just bought it a week ago.
One of my friends suggested a VATS bypass module from Midwest Motors. My key was a 3.74 Ohms, which is a VATS 10. Ordered the corresponding bypass module and it arrived today.

Instructions said it would take 10 minutes and were step by step. I am not exactly very mechanical so I took it slow. 40 minutes later I am putting the negative back on the battery and start my testing.

Started and drove it three different times in 20 minutes. It appears fine.

Happy man so far. Now just to fix the AC and the radio antenna !

True, it will be FIXED when I get the ECM flashed.

However I consider a car that now starts every time as opposed to only when it thinks I'm not trying to steal it, FIXED.

A new key fixed mine.

Congratulations on your repair. The purists will always whine about a bypass but in today's age the Honda Civic is the most stolen car. I just don't see a surge in thefts of C4 Corvettes. Turns out you're mechanical. Being a retired Carpenter I know what happens when you follow simple instructions (blueprints). My son is 30 and laughs when I read instructions while he's busy screwing it up.

Note that if your starter enable relay fails the engine will not start. You need to bypass the starter enable relay to avoid this problem.

Tell me more !

Is the starter enable relay, the VATS module in the dash that reads the resistance ?
Because that would make sense what you are saying. I understand that essentially I have just taken the key and the tumbler out of the mix, but as I think I said in the OP, this is just so I can drive the car until I get the ECM flashed.

Big Bird, VATS is 2 parts. When you pull the memcal (calibration module) from the ECM to have VATS programmed out it is only the fuel injector authorization. The VATS module also authorizes the starter enable relay. This relay can be bypassed by grounding a yellow wire and then you'll be fully VATS free. Read here for more information.
