Default jacking up car

How do you guys get all 4 wheels off the ground since access to the diff keeps you from jacking up the rear? I'm going to install long tubes and am curious of your methods to get the car up safely without the feeling of tweaking it . Drive the front on ramps and Jack the rear diff has always been my method.

When I pulled my tranny in the back yard, I jacked up one side, put SOLID blocks under the wheels, then did the other side. Repeat until altitude desired reached. BE safe under there.

Do you jack the front and rear up at the same time from the side? Where are you placing the jack? Maybe I'm over thinking this but I don't want to hurt the thing. I actually use the factory scissor jack at the jack points when just getting one tire off the ground. I guess I could drive the front up ramps and use two scissor Jacks to get the rear up.

I jacked mine up in the front right in the center, pretty much right between the tires, like ghostrider said BE SAFE, you can never put to many jacks/blocks underneath, your life is at hand.

I'd do that but can't get the jack under it when the back is on ramps.

I started on the back, drivers side of the car. The frame is stiff enough to get both wheels on one side up, but I wouldn't do that, I just found out it happens. I then did the other side. Then switched to the front side. When I did it, I needed LOTS of room to get under it and to remove the tranny. It took me several times switching sides and ends to get it up as high as I wanted. Keep an eye on the other wheels that are on blocls as you start to again raise them.. the wheels will move a bit, side to side. I had to double up on the blocks as a safe issue. Put something, anything, under that car to hold it up enough for you to crawl out in case the unthinkable happens. It doesn't take long to be safe. BTW, there are a couple of post in here on how to build your own ramps that are suitable for that corvette front end.

The side rails (pinch rails) behind the front wheels have an arrow \/ showing the jack points, those are intended for the emergency jack in the car but give a good idea where you are supposed to support the vehicle weight. Most people say put the jack under the side mirror to lift that side of the car, and I have been doing this for years with no issues. I put a wood block between the jack pad and the rails. Be careful of steel lines running along the rails, don't damage them.

Jack up one side, support that side on stands. Then do the same to the other side. Before getting under, give each corner of the car a few solid bumps with your hip to be sure it's secure. Also a good idea to put a wheel underneath with you, if you have them removed... or anything else that's solid and 1' tall. Be safe.

I do the "one side - stands, other side - stands; repeat" thing with mine. Usually takes me 20-30 minutes to get it up where I want it. A pain, but better than other pain possibilities.

I've seen a jack pad mod that uses a thin section of metal to get between the exhaust pipes to jack from the differential. Haven't made one for myself yet. Doesn't solve the problem of lifting the front end, either.

Maybe this is the way to go: http://www.carguygarage.com/lblowrisepitlif.html Just leave it there and park on it so it doesn't take up room when not using it.

Maybe someday when I'm rich & famous I'll have a real shop with a 2-post lift to avoid all these hassles.

Someone sell basically a piece of I beam slides between exhaust pipes so jack can lift rear diff. I got a kwik lift now, should have got it years ago. To do long tubes; the car got to be up there. I would get some 2X12s and 5 ton jack stands (because they are taller than 3 ton). After getting car onto 3 ton stands put floor jack onto 2X12 and raise car to get on 5 ton stands at a height you think will work. Good Luck

I used 2 scissor jacks on each side going a little at a time on each side. The scissor jacks were $25 each at walmart then used 3T jack stands 2 for $25 at walmart too. for the back just move the scissor jacks to the back jack point and use block, or other jack stands too where they'll be safe and out of the way.

I drive up on some 2x8s, this is I can get my floor jack under the front cross member. I put the stands behind the front wheels neat the jack point.
To lift the rear I place a block of wood between the pig & the exhaust pipes. Then I lift right on the pipes. With the front over hanging the front stands, the rear is pretty light.

Front raised by using home made ramp and rear raised by using the JackAVette from the Corvette Gadgetman.

This is exactly the way I handle it when a hoist is not avaliable. I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned the fact that you really need to be aware of the fuel lines.

I drive the front wheels up on race ramps. I then Jack up the rear and slide in rhino ramps. This gave me plenty of room to install a magnaflow cat back exhaust and driver's side cat.

If you jack form the front point that this gentleman shows in the vid, the whole side of the car will raise. Install your stands for that side...jack and support the same on the other. Have the car up in the air w/one jack, 4 stands, in less than 5 minutes.

Ah, no. That's the front jack point, jacking there will raise the front corner.

Whole side jack point is straight down from a side mirror.
