Hi I just bought a 95 corvette and I'm having trouble locating the problem in my audio system. When I turn it on it sound like a helicopter almost, no audio though just this loud thumping sound. Idk if it's the amps, relay maybe, blown speakers or what. Anyone have similar problems?
IDK if it is worth it to fix. Only way I would fix it is if I wanted it to be original for show reasons. Other than that, I can run wires to the speakers and set up something newer and better. If I ever wanted to make it work, I could fix the system and reinstall it. Otherwise, I have new wires instead of the old stuff and a new set of speakers and new head unit with all the modern bells and whistles.
I didn't see the point of throwing good money after bad so that is what I did.
The radio started working when I turn it on and off three times, I'm thinking it's the relay? The first and second I switch it on it just buzzes/thumps than it like snaps on. What's u guys think
You can check this site out for info to find your issue. Most likely the issue are the amplifiers (that was my problem). A much easier fix and access to the speaker/amplifiers is easy. Just watch the videos.
They are very quick to answer your questions and will call you if you wish as well.
I had common issues with the bose amps with low or no volume. A previous owner had installed similar Cadillac amps in the front. I am having those replaced and rebuilding my rear original amps.

my sound was getting worse over the years. I got the car new so I know how good it was. the problem was with the radio box it is under the glove box. I toke it in to the bose radio shop and they rebuilt it it sounds great a gin. MidAmerican corvette parts also dose it.
also there is two amps I think it is the driver side front and back I got new ones and now it sounds new . I am very happy with it
Mine has been doing this since I've owned it. I had it looked at by someone I know who does stereos and he basically stated he would have to look at each speaker/amp to target the problem and fix it. I personally don't drive mine enough where it's worth fixing.

Determine if that noise is coming from only one speaker or more. If only one, you can have that amp rebuilt. That was the case with mine. I sent it to a repair shop on ebay and the total cost was around 40 bucks. You can also fix it yourself by replacing about a dozen filter capacitors on the preamp board, but it's not easy to do without damaging something. Some are covered by a sort of epoxy that is very difficult to get off. If it's both rear, then you can double that. You can troubleshoot by finding which of your speakers work correctly and then subbing that speaker/preamp into the spot of the noisy one and if it works correctly, you'll know that's the problem.
