How Lousy Does a Burned C4 Corvette Make You Feel?
This poor guy only had his 1985 C4 Corvette for one week before it was unfairly taken from him.

Melting Slicks
Wow
That is unusual, usually its engine bay related like fuel pressure regulator diaphragm failure or oil leak onto exhaust.
I had my oil pressure sender rupture spraying oil onto the exhaust, lucky I keep 2 fire extinguishers in my 85.
Just as well as one extinguisher was not enough, I got it out with minimal wiring damage and a couple of paint bubbles on the hood.
Another member watched his C4 burn after the hood release cables jammed, had photos of the fire rescue using an axe to open the hood...
Its devastating to watch a corvette burn, however you can but another.

If mine starts burning I wouldn't pee on it to put it out. I'd collect the insurance and buy one that I didn't have to replace the motor in already or find out what the PO did to the wiring up front in the headlights. I know i know it's my fault I was so anxious to get a corvette I didn't check it out well enough. but thats why I'd let it burn and buy one that was in better shape. But since that is most likely not going to happen i'll live with my mistake and fix the one I got and have a helluva story to tell the grandkids.

Safety Car
I have one in the car right now. Additionally I bought my 86 3 years ago and one of the first things I did once home was get it on a lift for a clutch cylinder replacement and have my mechanic give the car a good once over. Additionally every time he's worked on it he's given it a once over just to confirm nothing has changed. I also give it a once over myself every spring and fall. I figure that if one misses something the other will find it (hopefully)
It's a 30 year old car so things can wear or age out and I'd like to have it a number of years in the future without any drama.
It's cheap insurance IMO to have it looked at both by yourself and someone else..

At least nobody was in it!
Just recently here a guy had some kind of nitros fuel enhancement work done on a C7. There was an underhood leak that started a fire and burned up a bunch of wiring before they realized it was on fire. The electrical system shut off and the electric windows and doorlocks wouldn't open! The fire progressed so quick that it melted and jammed the emergency door release too. The two guys got pretty severe burns and toxic smoke before they were able to somehow get out. A plastic car on fire is REAL BAD!

I'd never get my money out of it and i wont do to someone else what was done to me. I'll fix it, be in over my head cash wise and just enjoy it. "The grass is not always greener under someone else's Corvette."

Insure and drive they are only cars
Recently picked up an older dually ins agent discouraged me from getting full coverage..nope I got it. Charlie Brown strikes here often lol
Sounds like youre not thrilled..if it needs that much bail out now and move on. Lots of nice C4s on the cheap out there that need less. Make things easy, chalk this one up to getting your teeth wet with one to see what they are about. Youll know more what to look for on your 2nd.
The new ones with their auto lock stuff would freak me out a bit. have something to break a window it can be tougher than you think esp if you wrecked and are injured.
