Hello forum, I have a 96' coupe and I'm having some A/C issue that I'm hoping yall can help me with.
So when I hit the auto button the first thing that happens is that it immediately comes out the defrost at the windshield. When I push the front vents button nothing happens for several minutes if at all. Sometimes it comes out the front vents for a minute or two then it goes back to defrost and it also comes out of the foot wells.
Also its not very cold unless I hit the recirc. button. Any ideas?
I posted a thread some years ago about repairing the vacuum controller that is responsible for the vast majority of 95 - 96 air control issues.
Your car's vacuum control unit, located above and to the right of the accelerator pedal, has soft rubber nipples where the actuator vacuum hoses attach and they tend to collapse. Do a search under the tech C4 section - I also included photos in the thread.
Contact me if you can't find it, I believe I still have the photos somewhere.
Just repaired the same problem on my 96 Conv. Air only came out defrost and heater vents. It does this by default if ac module vacuum is failing. I removed the module from the firewall and then cut out both of the connection sections (1 with rubber nipples and 1 with cups that the nipples go into) I then purchased three feet of 3/32 vacuum line and joined the colors and reinstalled module. Vents now work as they are supposed to work.
