My 96 is awesome. Still baking out some issues with the tranny, but that's a topic for a different day.
I'm 6'2" and I daily this car. I'm looking for a better seating solution than the factory leather for a couple reasons:
1. My head hits the top when I go over bumps
2. I live in Metro-Atlanta and it's unbelievably hot here during the summers and I'm a....sweaty guy. My car is Black on Black too which doesn't help the cause.
I just wanted to see if anyone had come across and solved the problem and had a specific seat they used that they liked.
I'm keeping the factory leather in storage because it's near pristine.
I forgot to mention that the motors seem to be jammed up on mine. When I move the selector on the console I just get a grinding noise. I live in an apartment too, so I'm limited in what I can work on in the parking lot.
I'm also long torso'd versus long legged so I tend to have a bit less head room in a lot of things.

Standard seats? Does your pass side work? If so swap seat tracks or buy a new transmission for it.
You'll find that every aftermarket seat will sit you up higher. The sliding function of the factory seats and whatnot sits inside the cushion of the seat, so it can get lower than any aftermarket seat, which the sliders will sit below the seat.
I'd ugget taking the roof off more. FWIW, I'm also 6'2 and don't hit my head, so maybe you can adjust your seat some to fix it?
Try reaching under the front of the seat and flip the u shaped wire down and back and remove the bottom. Now push the control back and down while you beat it to the desired position.
