Default SM help

Hi Everybody,

I own a 1989 Z51 6 spd. I have the Service Manual on disc. I have Sooo much trouble finding things. Today I am paging through and find information about the Horn relay and the cigarette lighter. The page 8A-40 says the horn relay "component location" is on page 201 7A. If I page through the 1221 page to page 201. There is no diagram of the horn relay location. So what am I not understanding.
The page 8A-40 says the horn relay isbehind the center of the I/P in the multi use center.
I am guessing that this is the panel where the switcheds for temperature, mileage, volts and trip odometer is, correct.
So I must remove the center consol and behind there is the horn relay correct.
And the auxiliary fuse box. That is under the dash on the passengers side correct. I was able to remove the plastic piece that contains the light. But how do you remove the carpeted piece to access under the dash and find the fuse box. Or where do I find it in the manual. I spent over an hour just getting this far on the disc.

Thank you all. I just want to be able to find everything. Thank you

201-7A is deceptive. They assume that you realize you're in the 8A section so they're directing you to 8A-201-7 and the A is the first of three on the page. You should have a LEFT PAYNE with BOOKMARKS and you need to get familiar with it. 8A-201-7 is actually page 1035 I believe if you've got the more popular CD FSM. The LEFT PAYNE and the TABLE OF CONTENTS once you're familiar works well.

The 201 section is COMPONENT LOCATION VIEWS in the LEFT PAYNE

Do you know how to open the BOOKMARKS and the TABLE OF CONTENTS?

That was a big help. Thank you. That diagram is the wiring behind the information center in the middle of the console correct? How do I use them.
If I click on the bookmark does that mean that when I open the disc I can find that page by clicking on the bookmarks. Thank you

Save the CD to your HDD and I don't use ADOBE READER any newer than version 10. I'm sure there are others that do well with newer but I just prefer the older menus. GET FAMILIAR WITH TABLE OF CONTENTS and BOOKMARKS in the LEFT PAYNE. If you find something of interest in the INDEX (last bookmark) you can search pretty selectively using those terms. You can get very creative after you become accustomed to it. TEXT seems to be the only thing "searchable" - I've meant to buy an ADOBE PRO version to edit some of the entries I'd like.

Thank you. My version of ADOBE does not have the search text feature. So I end up paging through the manual. Where in the manual is the location of the auxiliary fuse box. Thank you

What ADOBE version are you using? They all have it! Harder (my opinion) to use tools in newer versions.

'89 I didn't think there was an auxiliary fuse block. What issues other than horn are you trying to fix?

Funny you should ask about other electrical issues. The car is running great. Has a backfire when I slow down . But big improvement over where it was. I was too lazy to do much work on it this weekend.
Other electrical issues. The air conditioner will not shut off. Not that it pimps cool air. But the fan started running on a drive yesterday. I shut the car. But, Not the AC fan kept running. So
No horns. The do work I ran power to them
No cigarette lighter. means no cell phone charging, YIKES!!!!
AC runs after car is shut.
No power hatch.

Interior lights, turn signals and headlights are operational. Near as I can tell she does not burn oil or loose coolant. And, It rides really nice, compared to my 84. A car I really liked.

I am thinking that the ac running on could be the ignition switch. The one under the dash. Could it be so worn. Usually they kill the car.

Oh the horn relay is it behind the center console. I just hate to take things apart and find out I missed the mark. Thank you.

On a car with C68/ATC the Blower Module is nearly always the failed part. For the time being you can disconnect the BCM under the hood and the fan will stop.

Everything else you tackle one issue at a time.

thank you. That is what I did. I was pulling fuses all over the place and the darn thing kept running. So I pulled the BCM and it stopped.

Okay is the horn relay behind the information center in the middle cluster. The aux fuse box is supposed to be, according to the forum under the passenger side dash. But, I cannot remove the carpet to access under the dash. I got the plastic with the light out of the car but could not find a way to lower the carpet. Is that in the SM. Thank you

No AUX BOX on an '89 - quite sure! Don't worry about right side access. It is in the FSM though.

Do HORN diagnostics from 8A-40 (page 836)section.
