I have had this clutch issue going on since i got it back in 2012
90 L98 coupe. With clutch pedal down you can hear a loud knocking
from under the car most times. so while replacing my inop reverse light
switch i noticed that the slave cylinder was shimmed back with washers! i already knew about the rubber tie wrapped to the clutch
pedal. It appears some one tried to compensate for this condition after the they replaced clutch back in 07. If i would of done my home work on the the ZF,clutch parts supply problem and the poor quality
of parts from China, i would have gone with a Auto car. Being a former
Pontiac/Chev dealer Tech i can build 4L60 transmissions fine and still
have the tools. never saw any ZF6 action did one clutch on a lift.
It stands true the ZF6 is very tough. when i got the clutch out i found
areas were the fork has been hitting these dowl pins in the presure
plate, my fork may be bent and or fly wheel a Fidanza out of spec.
had a couple of beers and was thinking of buying a donner car
and make my C4 a Auto. i have always know of bill Bill Boudreau
the ZF doc and Jim Jandic power torque systems, after long phone
talks with these two guys i was well up to date on the issues
with that said i quietly removed my grand childrens inheritance
from the bank and sent out my hydraulic parts to jim at power torque, and crated up my ZF6 to go to bill the Z doc. and all clutch
parts for evaluation, blue print rebuild along with short shifter mod
he does out there. when thats picked up i am removing the engine,
this car really runs fine with 240k on the clock. But i am very OCD
and picky about repairs being done correctly! taking time to figure
out the L98 most likely send it out for rebuild on short block, find some nice heads and a performance cam set. Changing out all driveline Ujoints and prop shaft joints next weekend.

You have started a real expensive project so make it worth it. You have a ZF transmission so the engine build is worth the money. 3:42 gears are great. Anyway if I were you I would shoot for 400 crank horsepower and have a real nice fast car.
