Default Heater switch replacement

The mechanical rotary heater switch in my 86 coupe needs to be replaced as it only works on high speed, sometimes not at all. I have the replacement, but don't know how to access the switch. There are two screws in the dash panel, but they do not allow removal. How do I get to the switch?

You thread/post is confusing....'high speed ' deals with the fan....and not the heater.

You remove the trim to get at the control and then replace the switch. You don't need to remove it just be able to handle and manipulate to get to I believe two fasteners. Be care full with temp cable and vacuum lines. With this image of the control and your new part I believe that you can sort it easily.
